We’re hiring a Mechanical Engineer to be part of a dynamic Reliability Engineering Team. We are particularly interested in a Mechanical Engineer that is passionate about working with mining equipment fleet such as Ultra class trucks, shovels, dozers, graders, excavators, wheel loaders etc. to achieve high availabilities and sustained reliability through continuous improvement, root cause failure analysis, and one-time cost-effective repairs.
This role gives you the opportunity to be at the forefront of our Mining operations, where you will have an immediate impact on the business. You will be directly interfacing with Operations and Maintenance teams to mitigate threats impacting equipment reliability.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the Mechanical Engineering discipline, or equivalent
- Professional Engineering designation or eligible for registration with APEGA is also considered
- Five years of engineering experience in mine mobile equipment or fixed plant
- Experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis and Reliability metrics
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs
- Experience with SAP / S4 is considered an asset
- Client service oriented, ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team as required, and Analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:- Improve existing asset strategies by working closely with maintenance, planners, and operations on reliability issues and failure trends.
- Investigate and perform root-cause analysis of failures.
- Ensure equipment design changes align with the engineering management systems and are evaluated for the impact on equipment reliability; lead the engineering design of equipment modifications.
- Collaborate with maintenance, equipment service provider and OEM to recommend appropriate action for repair strategy.
- Provide engineering support to Haul Truck, Shovel and Support Equipment Maintenance Teams.
- Lead scope development for unique repairs such as major rebuilds, shutdowns, and upgrades.
- Drive data-driven reliability risk-based financial decisions and longer-term business improvements, ensuring these are incorporated into the annual plan.
- Monitor and evaluate the health and performance of mining equipment fleet to ensure reliability is sustained.
- Define and resolve chronic problems, including the technical and business evaluations of potential solutions.
- Design and evaluate custom tools and lifting apparatus.
- Provide input to new equipment purchases through specifications and bid evaluations.
- Ensure equipment performance improvement recommendations are analyzed utilizing loss monitoring results and prioritized based on Risk Based Work Selection principles.
- Work closely with the fleet analyst to ensure you are up to date on equipment availabilities and downtime reasons.
- Review oil samples to support condition-based and remote health monitoring activities.
- Review alarm monitoring reports to surface issues to identify proper interventions preventing component failure.
Location and other Key Details:- You will work out of a Syncrude location in Fort McMurray.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
- Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work.
- If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided.
