Job summary

Pioneer Transformers, part of the ERMCO Group, in Mississauga, Ontario, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to assist in design, development and optimization of power electronics hardware with supervision from senior engineers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to compliant, innovative designs.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree and 2–3 years of transformer-related design experience, plus proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks and FEA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2–3 years of experience in mechanical engineering, focused on transformer or related product design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, and FEA for design and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design and development of power electronics hardware platforms or related components, ensuring industry standards compliance.
  • Conduct basic engineering analyses to support performance, cost optimization, and efficiency improvements.
  • Support failure analysis on design-related issues under supervision of senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure design integration into production.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to meet project requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design specs and test plans.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes to maintain compliant designs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for processes and product designs.

Your Mandate As a Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will assist in the design, development, and optimization of power electronics hardware platforms and related components. In this intermediate-level role, you will apply your growing expertise to contribute to projects and tasks under the guidance of senior engineers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and have opportunities to further develop your technical skills. Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting design initiatives and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of power electronics hardware platforms or related components, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, UL, IEC, CSA) and customer specifications.
  • Conduct basic engineering analyses to support product performance, cost optimization, and efficiency improvements.
  • Support failure analysis on design-related issues under the supervision of senior engineers, contributing to identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure successful integration of designs into production.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to ensure designs meet project and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design specifications and test plans, under supervision.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes to assist in maintaining competitive and compliant designs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by supporting efforts to improve processes and product designs.
Qualifications

We are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on transformer or related product design.
  • Proficiency with basic design and analysis tools, including mechanical and thermal analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, FEA).
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, UL, IEC, CSA) and regulatory requirements (e.g. DOE) for transformers or components.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn and apply technical knowledge under supervision.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $85,000 to $95,000.
