Galvion designs, develops, and manufactures ballistic helmets and dynamic power and data management solutions for the modern battlefield. THE OPPORTUNITY

The Mechanical Engineer II is part of the team responsible for creating a wide range of solutions for the company’s product line; from component level to system level solutions. The Mechanical Engineer II will participate in the development of design concepts using CAD tools, mock-ups, and prototypes, and will participate in the validation of designs through analysis, testing, and trials. They will be a key member of the design and engineering teams and will participate in new product development and product improvement efforts. They will work alongside other departments to establish the design brief, including the concept, performance, and production constraints and criteria to ensure manufacturability, durability, and performance of the products. The Mechanical Engineer II will liaise with process and tool engineering, supply chain, and operations to ensure the transition of designs into mass production. Within the Design Engineering team, they will be the Subject Matter Expert regarding technical documentation and specifications, drafting standards, and GD&T. They will be mentored by senior mechanical engineers to develop their capabilities, expertise, and mastery of engineering best practices.

What You Will Be Doing

  1. Liaise with other departments and suppliers during product development.
  2. Establish design briefs, including concepts, assumptions, performance, and production constraints.
  3. Perform or outsource analytic work such as static and dynamic stress analysis.
  4. Select components, technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes suited for the application.
  5. Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and support fact-based decision making.
  6. Track engineering budgets and optimize for size, weight, and material conditions.
  7. Create 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assemblies.
  8. Validate designs through testing and trials.
  9. Document mechanical specifications for manufacturing.
  10. Manage and control configuration of technical data.
  11. Create and update bills of material (BOM).
  12. Manage technical data within an ERP system.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance

  • Demonstrate concepts through sketches, mock-ups, and prototypes.
  • Apply engineering best practices to reduce design iterations.
  • Develop tools to accelerate data collection and automate analysis.

What You Will Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Quebec (OIQ) or another Canadian province.
  • At least 5 years of experience in product development.
  • Experience leading small scientific teams is a plus.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks FEA is a plus.
  • Understanding of mechanical design calculations and techniques.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Understanding of dynamics, impact, and shock testing.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-31000A standards.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, tolerancing, and material strength.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience creating mock-ups and prototypes is a plus.
  • Technical Data Management experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in a production environment is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience with Military and PPE standards is a plus.
