Mechanical Engineer – Fluid Systems, AlumaPower Corporation

Do you want to be part of a hyper-growth company reducing society’s reliance on fossil fuels by developing products that use a revolutionary new kind of clean fuel?

If yes, you may be the perfect candidate to join us at AlumaPower, a cleantech company with facilities in Sarnia and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

Our breakthrough multi-patented technology re-invents the aluminum-air battery as a ‘galvanic generator.

We are now developing an innovative long-life energy source that runs on post-consumer scrap, or “abandoned” aluminum, as a fuel source - displacing hydrocarbons and complementing other battery solutions such as lithium-ion.

This job is based in Sarnia. You will report to our Product Development Manager and will play a crucial role in supporting our team in designing, testing, and troubleshooting systems.

Job Summary

As a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer in this role, you will design, analyze, and optimize systems involving the transfer, storage, and control of liquids and gases. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience, a strong foundation in fluid dynamics, and proven experience with CAD tools. This role requires both technical expertise and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, proactively identifies opportunities for improvement, and drives projects forward with minimal supervision.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion 360).
  • Knowledge of materials (metals, polymers, composites) and manufacturing methods.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a start-up environment with evolving requirements.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel between Kitchener and Sarnia offices
  • Strong team player with a proven ability to communicate effectively and gather requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in team atmospheres or individually with little supervision.
  • Strong understanding of WHMIS and SDS.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations.
Job Duties
  • Design and develop fluid handling systems, including piping, valves, compressors, and pumps.
  • Perform fluid flow and thermal analyses to ensure system efficiency and reliability.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Conduct modelling and simulations to validate designs under operating conditions an asset.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (ASME, CSA, API, TSSA).
  • Support assembly, testing, and commissioning of fluid systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and recommend design improvements.
  • Document designs, test results, and engineering processes.
Additional Assets
  • Experience in energy, power generation, automotive, or aerospace industries.
  • Familiarity with corrosion, oxidation, and heat exchanger design.
  • Experience commissioning and troubleshooting complex fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of project management and cost estimation practices.
  • P. Eng. designation (or eligibility with Professional Engineers Ontario).
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in fluid system design and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of pressure vessels and piping codes (ASME, CSA B51/B52).
  • Experience with FEA/CFD tools for stress and flow analysis
Compensation
  • Commensurate with experience.
