Senior Associate – Mechanical Engineer
Location: Ottawa, Ontario (relocation is required)
Sector: Buildings Engineering
Salary: $105K+ (commensurate with experience)

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our client is a well-respected, multi-disciplinary consulting engineering firm with a strong presence in Eastern Canada. As they continue to expand their Mechanical Engineering division in Ottawa, they are seeking a driven leader to support business growth, client engagement, and operational leadership. This role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to take on a senior leadership position and help shape the future of the department.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Associate – Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing projects, mentoring a team, and fostering client relationships. This individual will play a key role in business development, ensuring the successful execution of projects, and contributing to the firm's long-term strategic vision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as an Associate for the Mechanical Engineering team, providing leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers
  • Drive business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients
  • Act as a primary client liaison, representing the firm at meetings, events, and within industry networks
  • Manage and oversee project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring high-quality service in mechanical engineering for building projects
  • Support recruitment efforts, including hiring decisions and peer reviews
  • Oversee project management aspects such as financials, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure smooth execution
  • Provide expertise on mechanical systems, materials, and industry standards, supporting project teams as needed
  • Stay informed about sustainable building practices and high-performance mechanical design
  • Participate in leadership meetings, contributing to discussions on operations, strategy, and company goals
  • Supervise the design and technical performance of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems within the team
  • Collaborate with the Principal to share key updates on projects, team performance, and deliverables
Requirements:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Ontario
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, including leadership experience
  • Previous experience managing teams and mentoring staff is an asset
  • Business development experience in Ottawa, with a strong professional network, is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and plumbing system codes, energy regulations, and industry standards
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Proven client and project management experience
  • Strong leadership abilities, with a proactive and collaborative approach to team management
  • LEED Accreditation is an asset but not mandatory
