Job Summary

Rockland Scientific is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (ME) to join our team. The mechanical engineer is responsible for the lifecycle of mechanical systems for Rockland products and equipment. This includes the conceptual design of mechanical components and assemblies, through to development, testing, documentation, release to production, and maintenance. In addition, the mechanical engineer is part of the engineering team that collaborates to develop new products and equipment. The mechanical engineer provides internal and external technical support for Rockland’s products and collaborates with other departments. The mechanical engineer is expected to report progress and challenges to the manager as they occur.

Position Qualifications & Requirements

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  2. 3 to 5 years of demonstrated expertise in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical components and assemblies.
  3. Experience in the marine industry/environment is strongly preferred.
  4. Registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) is required.
  5. Strong knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks is preferred)

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design and maintain (e.g. implementing improvements, part revisions) mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
  2. Test, troubleshoot, and verify mechanical designs using both CAD tools and physical prototyping.
  3. Create documentation to record design choices, solutions, testing plans/results, product manufacturing packages (CAD parts/assemblies, BOMs, etc.), user guides/manuals, and technical notes (internal/external technical notes and process documentation).
  4. Provide internal and external technical support for Rockland’s mechanical components and assemblies.

Working conditions

Office and workshop environments, including the occasional use of hand/power tools and hazardous equipment or chemicals. At times work independently with a high degree of autonomy.

Salary range: $65,000 - $85,000 based on experience and technical skill level.
