Job summary

BPA is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to help establish our new Vancouver office. The role combines startup energy with the resources of a Canada-wide firm, delivering institutional projects and guiding the local team.

You will lead building systems design, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with teams nationwide. A strong, collaborative leader with 5+ years in building systems is ideal, with EGBC in good standing and proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (building) or building engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
  • Member in good standing of EGBC (Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, HAP and MS Office.
  • Ability to write reports, conduct site visits, and design mechanical/plumbing systems with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Technical supervision, coordination and design of mechanical building systems from concept to construction completion.
  • Collaborate on building systems design projects for institutional, office, commercial, cultural and residential sectors.
  • Engage with clients to understand needs and translate them into design solutions.
  • Survey existing installations and analyze/build adaptations.
  • Prepare client reports and manage project relationships.
  • Support project delivery standards as the Vancouver office grows.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team culture and quality.

With 5+ years of relevant experience in building mechanical engineering, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse portfolio of institutional projects while contributing to the growth of our local team and culture.

In this role, you will lead and support mechanical building systems design, collaborate with teams across the country, mentor younger resources and contribute your technical knowledge throughout all project phases. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful responsibilities, collaborate directly with senior leadership, and help shape project delivery standards and practices as the Vancouver office grows.

Your daily impact
  • Technical supervision, coordination, verification and design of various mechanical building systems projects from concept design to completion of construction.
  • Work as part of a team to carry out building-related mechanical systems design projects for various sectors (institutional, office, commercial, cultural and residential).
  • Connect with clients to understand their needs.
  • Survey existing installations.
  • Analyze, design and adapt building-related installations.
  • Prepare various types of client reports.
  • Manage the project and the relationships with the client.
Your profile
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (specializing in building) or building engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
  • Member in good standing of EGBC (Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP heat loads calculations software.
  • Capability to write reports, complete site visits, and design mechanical and plumbing systems with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative spirit and positive leadership to influence technical decisions and client relationships.
