SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer will be a member of the Professional Services team and be able to work independently on Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, drainage, fire protection and Building Automation System (BAS) upgrade projects.The potential candidate must have good communication, client liaison skills and a strong technical background in order to start and complete projects independently. Projects include tenant fit-up, commercial building mechanical retrofit system upgrades, and data centre HVAC retrofit projects.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide client communication and coordination, design development, and construction contract administration for mechanical systems upgrade projects mentioned above.
  • Provide feasibility and assessment studies related to existing HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection and building automation systems related to above.
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, facility management professionals and technicians in order to develop short and long-term recommendations, design and construction implementation related to mechanical upgrade projects for existing facilities.
  • The Mechanical Engineer must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in order to complete project assignments.
  • Support Project Delivery Services Project Managers and Workplace Solutions Architects from project initiation to completion.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or College Diploma with minimum 8 years of consulting industry experience providing mechanical building services design and engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer able to stamp mechanical drawings in the province of Ontario.
  • Strong technical background in engineering and construction of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, drainage, building controls, and life safety systems.
  • Fire protection design experience would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards – such as Provincial and National Building Codes, ASHRAE, etc.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment and able to coordinate with Architectural, Electrical and Structural.
  • Proficient with MS Office products.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and other employees.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • A team player.
  • Able to travel throughout Canada.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in other Provinces would be considered a bonus.
