Mechanical Engineer, Building Services

SAB Engineering Inc. is a medium size dynamic Canadian engineering firm based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer, graduated from a reputable university, interested in the design of building services and energy management, and ready to join our dynamic and expanding firm. We offer a flexible and friendly working environment and look for individuals that are committed to personal excellence while working as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently under the direction of the Principal to manage a project from the design stage to the completion of the construction.
  • Responsible for HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing design of commercial, institutional and educational projects.
  • Inspect sites prior to commencement of the detailed design and assess existing conditions, perform measurements.
  • Preparation of detailed design concepts, schematics, drawings, calculations, reports, and equipment selection.
  • Coordinating, assessing, and organizing their work on the various projects. Coordinate with the designers and junior engineers associated with the project.
  • Construction work site review, interface with clients and contractors.
  • Review of shop drawings, requests for information, and maintaining prompt project correspondence.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Perform energy audits.
  • Using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other resources to design the systems required for the various projects.
  • Attend a range of project, group and technical meetings.
  • Ability to coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines as required.
  • Review design compliance with all relevant Codes and Standards.

Essential Skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout southern Ontario (G-class driver's license).
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects, good organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing and fire protection design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, HAP, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Committed to detail and good design practices.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific software.
  • Strong communication skills through correspondence, verbal, and interpersonal interaction.

Education & Qualifications

  • Graduate with a 4-year Bachelor Degree in engineering from a recognized University.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
  • Mechanical Building Services experience (minimum 5 years of HVAC experience).
  • Experience with size and selection of various mechanical equipment such as boiler, pumps, chillers, air handlers, etc.
  • Experience designing heating plants, chilled water plants, and HVAC distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with the design of controls systems and Building Automation Systems for various applications.
  • Familiarity with municipal, provincial, and federal Safety Codes and Authorities.
  • Ability to read, write and correspond using the English language.
