Altis Technology in Peterborough, ON is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to design and draft equipment for automated systems in a regulated nuclear sector. You will work with Mechanical Engineers, Designers and manufacturing teams through the full project lifecycle.

The role emphasizes hands-on CAD work, DFMA and GD&T, with opportunities to improve manufacturability and reliability while meeting safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Mech Eng Technologist diploma or CET designation.
  • 3D CAD experience with SOLIDWORKS or Inventor; AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Strong drafting, GD&T and manufacturability knowledge.
  • Experience in mechanical systems, welded fabrications or assemblies.
  • Familiarity with CAD file management (PDM) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of DFMA and nuclear codes (CSA/ASME/CANDU) is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and draft mechanical designs for automated equipment using 2D/3D CAD.
  • Produce and update part drawings, assemblies, layouts and BOMs.
  • Apply GD&T, DFMA and manufacturability constraints to designs.
  • Provide technical support to Engineering, Procurement and Manufacturing.
  • Participate in design reviews and customer meetings with input.
  • Manage design work per schedules, budgets, and change control.
  • Identify risks and support process and technology improvements.

About the Opportunity Join a highly specialized engineering environment supporting complex mechanical systems used within Canadas nuclear energy sector. This is an opportunity to contribute to the design and development of equipment that supports safe, reliable energy production and other critical applications. Working closely with Mechanical Engineers, Technologists, Designers, manufacturing teams and project stakeholders, youll contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through manufacturing, testing and operational support. Your work will help turn technical requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions.

Your Responsibilities
  • Youll develop, model and draft mechanical designs for automated and semi-automated equipment using 2D and 3D CAD tools.
  • Youll produce and update detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, layouts and bills of material.
  • Youll select mechanical components and apply GD&T, DFMA principles and manufacturability considerations to your designs.
  • Youll provide technical support to Engineering, Procurement and Manufacturing teams throughout project execution.
  • Youll participate in design reviews and customer meetings, presenting technical information and design inputs when required.
  • Youll manage assigned design work against project schedules, budgets, quality requirements and engineering change control processes.
  • Youll identify technical risks, troubleshoot design challenges and support process and technology improvements.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma, CET designation or equivalent, combined with related mechanical design experience.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D parametric CAD software, preferably SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor, with AutoCAD experience considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of drafting practices, GD&T, machining principles and manufacturability constraints.
  • Experience designing mechanical systems, machine components, welded fabrications or assemblies.
  • Familiarity with engineering change control and PDM systems for CAD file management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of DFMA, CSA Nuclear Codes, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes or CANDU-related engineering environments is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
