Job summary

Stantec in Canada is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technologists and designers on projects ranging from new construction to renovations. You will apply your knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, and industry standards to deliver high-quality design packages.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate with team leads, and contribute to BIM-based design development using Revit, AutoCAD and Revizto.

  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Experience leading design teams and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Workload and resource planning with the Industrial Mechanical team, coordinating with Team Leads and team members.
  • Engages with other team members and other mechanical staff to assist with technical development.
  • Internal leadership in design excellence, coaching, recruitment and retention.
  • Lead and assist in development of single-discipline design components.
  • Provide fee development and technical writing support for mechanical components of proposals.
  • Providing technical input and support for large projects of high complexity.
  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers mechanical systems for projects.
  • Develops design through sketches, models, diagrams and visuals.
  • Utilizes BIM technologies in 3D modeling and markups for junior engineers.
  • Prepares and revises documentation for mechanical phases.
  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Participates in client meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Leads coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
  • Participates in constructability reviews.
  • Conducts QA/QC on projects and peers.
  • Assists in developing new standards and specs for the mechanical group.
  • Develops project scope, budgets and design approaches.
  • Oversees and manages multiple projects.

Your Opportunity

Your role as the Mechanical Engineer is to work alongside a team of highly skilled Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, Designers and Co-Op staff to successfully execute projects of varying sizes and complexity. The Mechanical Engineer role is also responsible for contributing to the development, mentoring, and coaching of team members using your specialized knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards. You will be responsible for aligning and enforcing technical quality for all your deliverables and advance the efficiency and efficacy of all mechanical team members.

  • Warehouses, Distribution Centres, Fulfillment Centres, and Parcel Sortation Facilities

Your Key Responsibilities


  • Workload and resource planning with the Industrial Mechanical team, coordinating with the Team Leads and team members – including Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, and Co-Ops.

  • Engages with other team members and other mechanical staff within the BC to assist with technical development.

  • Providing technical input and support for large projects of high complexity.

  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project.

  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other visual formats.

  • Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building’s mechanical systems and provides markups for junior engineers.

  • Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.

  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.

  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.

  • Participates in constructability review.

  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.

  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical group.

  • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all sizes of projects.

  • Oversees and manages multiple projects.


Your Capabilities and Credentials


  • Requisite knowledge and application of applicable building codes and applicable building and energy codes.

  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Must be able to qualify for Security Clearance with the Department of National Defense.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.

  • Presentation and interview skills are preferred.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Revizto, and heat load calculation software.
