Job description

As a mechanical designer you will be responsible for collaborating with our research and development teams to deliver high-quality mechanical designs and physical products to meet our research and development objectives. You will be responsible for designing and prototyping hardware, modifying current designs, and integrating new mechanical solutions to improve both internal and product offerings.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Participating in all parts of mechanical design, including current enhancements and new versions, of Forsta Varme proprietary systems using computer aided design and engineering systems
  • Coordinate planned engineering work with the rest of the engineering team
  • Physical prototyping and fabrication of early designs, including the hands-on testing and validation of candidate designs
  • Preparing regular reports of the outcomes and performance of engineered solutions including quantitative performance metrics and qualitative usability
  • Collaborating closely with the electrical, software and scientific teams in developing, implementing, and testing various system solutions
  • Using thermomechanical computer simulation for virtual prototyping throughout the design process
  • Communicating with various design and engineering partners for the acquisition or contract fabrication of mechanical parts, including preparation of drawings
  • Participate in design, concept, and research presentations within the company, especially including weekly engineering meetings, and biweekly work planning and review

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or similar
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Fusion or similar 3D design software tools

  • Experience with computer aided engineering and simulation software such as Ansys considered a strong asset
  • Experience with hardware prototyping tools and machinery such as drills, calipers, CNC, 3D printing etc.
  • Knowledge of the hardware development life cycle
  • Domain knowledge of thermal property instrumentation and applications considered an asset
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and teamwork abilities
