Position: Mechanical Engineer - Fort Hills
Supporting our Fort Hills Primary Extraction operations, you will apply your engineering skills, knowledge, and experience in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. This role offers both short-term technical challenges and long-term initiatives aligned with Suncor's values, focusing on safety, environment, reliability, and financial performance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Seven to ten years of relevant engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Must be a Professional Engineer or eligible for membership in APEGA
- Field experience in Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, or Oil Sands operations
- Experience with ASME/API Standards, including B31.3, B31.4, and API 579
- Experience developing and improving reliability and quality programs, equipment strategies, and degradation mitigation
- Knowledge of mechanical design standards, specifications, and codes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with operational personnel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for providing clear work directions
Key Accountabilities:
- Collaborate daily with operations, maintenance, planning, and engineering teams on equipment performance
- Develop and optimize mechanical inspection and repair plans for field execution
- Monitor and troubleshoot mechanical equipment health (conveyors, pumps, tanks, piping, etc.)
- Conduct root cause analysis of mechanical failures
- Lead management of change initiatives to improve equipment availability and reduce costs
- Support planning activities for outages, shutdowns, and future spend rationalization
Location and Other Details:
- Based at the Fort Hills mining site in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 km north of Fort McMurray
- Shift schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off rotation
- Compensation aligned with experience and scope of work
