About the Role
The Project Mechanical Engineer is responsible for managing relationships with Engineering service providers and leading the design review process to ensure compliance with regulatory codes and specifications. The Project Mechanical Engineer oversees the design of expansion and growth enhancement projects executed by Engineering service providers, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, client specifications, client processes and operational reliability requirements within project budget and schedule. They liaise with stakeholders to interpret key information for competitive solutions and successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage the relationship and contracts with Engineering services providers
- Lead the design review process with internal and external stakeholders ensuring regulatory code compliance and client’s specifications
- Ensure internal Standards and procedures are followed including Process Hazard Assessments and from a constructibility perspective
- Manage the specification and requisition of materials by reviewing vendor materials quotations, evaluate technical bid evaluations and provide recommendations based on technical merit along with price and delivery. Collaborate with Supply Chain to procure material via internal tools.
- Provide planning and scheduling for design and procurement phases of the project
- Provide technical support during all project phases, including project development, construction, and commissioning.
- Specify the hydrotest pressure requirements and review associated results for compliance
- Manage engineering firms to incorporate red-line markups into as-built drawings for all projects
- Act as Engineering control account manager for internal and external budget, schedule and technical objectives
- Supports the development of the project scope, schedule, capital cost estimate, execution planning, risks and supporting information related to assigned facility projects during the project development phase.
- Support Operations with any incident investigations after project handover
- Reviews lessons learned from past projects and incorporates recommendations into future designs
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers within the team or others based upon technical expertise
- Provides support and assistance to peers and more senior staff in order to facilitate/lead business or department initiatives and legal compliance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
- Professional Engineer designation
Required Skills
- Min 5 years progressive experience in Engineering system design and commissioning activities within Oil and Gas Industry
- Aptitude and communications skills related to acting independently as a professional engineer
- Proven planning, organizational, problem solving, decision-making and negotiating skills, supplemented with a practical aptitude.

- Project Management experience
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative, initiate and manage change.
- Capable of working independently, managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks accordingly
- Ability to resolve complex issues based on depth and breadth of technical and business knowledge
- Awareness of interrelationships with other stakeholders both internal and external to the project team
- Effectively communicate technical issues and impacts to other technical and non-technical staff
- Edmonton office location preferred. Calgary office considered.
