Job summary

The HIDI Group Inc. is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with offices across Canada, including Toronto. We seek a Mechanical EIT to support mechanical building systems design and project delivery across the full project lifecycle, from concept through construction.

You will gain hands-on experience in HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection while collaborating with engineers and cross-functional teams. This role encourages professional growth and P.Eng. progression.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required or in progress toward registration as professional engineer in training (EIT).
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Proactive problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection).
• Develop drawings using AutoCAD; support REVIT-based projects where applicable.
• Perform calculations (heat gain/loss, energy modelling); assist with system sizing and selection.
• Prepare schematics, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, and engineering reports.
• Coordinate designs with architectural, electrical, and structural teams; ensure codes and standards compliance.
• Support preparation of specifications and contract documentation.
• Attend client and internal meetings; participate in site reviews and construction meetings.
• Review shop drawings and assist with RFIs, CCNs, SIs; conduct site audits and verify conditions.
• Collaborate with team; pursue professional development and P.Eng. designation.

The Role

As a Mechanical EIT, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical building systems, working closely with Engineers and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across all phases of a project—from concept through to construction—while building a strong technical foundation in HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design & Project Delivery

• Assist in the design of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection
• Develop drawings using AutoCAD and support REVIT-based projects (where applicable)
• Perform calculations (e.g., heat gain/loss, energy modelling) and support system sizing and selection
• Prepare schematics, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, and engineering reports
• Coordinate designs with architectural, electrical, and structural teams
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, etc.)
• Support the preparation of specifications and contract documentation

Project Coordination & Construction Support

• Attend client meetings and internal coordination meetings
• Participate in site reviews and construction meetings
• Review shop drawings and assist with responding to RFIs, CCNs, and SIs
• Conduct site audits and verify existing conditions

Team & Professional Development

• Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive, high-performing environment
• Take initiative in your professional development and pursue your P.Eng. designation
• Manage your time effectively across multiple projects and deadlines
• Contribute ideas and support continuous improvement within the team

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Registered or working toward registration as an EIT
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD (REVIT experience is an asset)
• Understanding of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) is an asset
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication—both written and verbal
• A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
