Job summary

Boart Longyear is hiring a Mechanical Draftsperson to design and document drilling equipment used in the mining industry. This full-time position is based out of our Haileybury, Ontario office and may require travel across Ontario.

The role emphasizes 3D modeling, detailed drafting, and collaboration with maintenance and operations to ensure part compatibility and optimal performance.

Qualifications

• Proficient in 3D modeling and drafting
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic drawings

Responsibilities

• Use precision tools to measure components and verify dimensions
• Identify materials, coatings, and manufacturing methods
• Determine critical dimensions, fits, and GD&T
• Create detailed designs and specifications, including 3D models and drawings
• Update legacy designs, drawings and manuals
• Review BOMs and part numbers to identify components
• Source new suppliers and obtain price quotes
• Collaborate with maintenance and operations to ensure part compatibility
• Maintain documentation and document control processes

Job Summary

Boart Longyear is hiring a Mechanical Draftsperson to work on drilling equipment used in the mining industry. This is a comprehensive position with duties required in several areas including maintenance, supply chain and operations. This position is a full-time permanent position based out of our Haileybury, Ontario office and may require some travel across Ontario.

Salary range:

$70,000 to $90,000 annually

Job Responsibilities

• Use precision tools like calipers and micrometers to measure components.
• Identify material compositions, coatings and manufacturing methods.
• Determine critical dimensions, fits, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Complete detailed designs and specifications, including 3D modeling, drawing creation and document control.
• Update legacy designs, drawings and manuals.
• Review bill of materials, engineering datasheets and manufacturer part numbers to identify precise components requirements.
• Find new suppliers, gather price quotes and build good working relationships with current vendors.
• Work closely with the maintenance department and operations to confirm part compatibility and resolve equipment issues.

Education And Experience

• Mechanical Technician or Mechanical Engineer
• 3D modeling and drafting
• Excellent communication skills - verbal & written
• High attention to detail
• Exposure to heavy equipment: design, operation, maintenance
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings: mechanical, electrical, hydraulic
• Understanding of machinery safety requirements
