Job summary

Boart Longyear is hiring field mechanics to support drilling operations from our Haileybury, Ontario facility. You will repair, troubleshoot and overhaul drilling equipment and mobile support gear, with travel to Red Lake and Kirkland Lake mines as needed.

The role emphasizes safety, compliance, and timely maintenance to keep operations productive. The position requires a Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Red Seal, a secondary school diploma, and completion of a 3–5 year apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade Certification (Red Seal) required.
• Secondary school completion normally required.
• Three- to five-year apprenticeship program completed.
• Valid driver’s license; provide abstract when hired.
• Standard First Aid; underground common core an asset; basic safety orientation an asset.

Responsibilities

• Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment.
• Location: Haileybury, Ontario; work in Haileybury, Red Lake, Kirkland Lake mines.
• Ensure safety standards are observed and coordinate with other departments.
• Inspect, diagnose faults, replace defective parts and test repaired equipment.
• Service specialty attachments and equipment to maintain Boart Longyear drilling operations.

We have several exciting opportunities available for field mechanics. Based out of our facility in Haileybury, Ontario, opportunities are available to work in Red Lake (Evolution), Kirkland Lake (Macassa) mines.

Hourly Wage: $36.60 - $49.20/hr

Position Responsibilities

Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment used within the scope of Boart Longyear Drilling operations. This position will be located in Haileybury, Ontario.

Main duties

Mechanics Perform Some Or All Of The Following Duties

• Check for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions


• Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine extent of repair required


• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools


• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets regulatory specifications


• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment


• Perform repair work on all Boart Longyear Drilling equipment


• May service specialty attachments or components and maintain, adjust and repair such items


• Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed


• Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments


• Requisition parts, materials and supplies


• Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity


• Experience with LM drills, Swick drills, Minecats and Kubotas would be an asset

Employment Requirements

• Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade Certification (Red Seal)


• Completion of secondary school is usually required


• Completion of three- to five-year apprenticeship program


• This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired, by submitting a driver’s abstract to Human Resources


• Standard First Aid


• Underground common core would be an asset


• Basic Safety Orientation, an asset


• Schedule to be negotiated

Education And Experience

Typically requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3+ years of directly related experience.
