Job summary

EXP Services Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Designer for Mining to join our Mining team across St. Johns, NL, Brampton, Sudbury or North Bay, ON.

You will lead a project design team and deliver mining-related layouts using MicroStation, AutoCAD and Bentley OpenPlant tools. The role requires a technical college diploma and 6+ years in heavy industrial design, EPCM experience preferred, with strong safety and quality focus.

Qualifications

• Technical college graduate with North American mining experience.
• Experience in heavy industrial design and layout, EPCM environment preferred.
• Knowledge of engineering standards, codes and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead a project design team of designers and coordinate multidisciplinary work.
• Produce mechanical layouts and plant design using Microstation V8, OpenPlant, AutoCAD, 2D and 3D tools for mining projects.
• Review 3D models and drawings; extract drawings from models; ensure budgets, schedules and deliverables are met.
• Mentor and supervise the design team; coordinate with client representatives; participate in proposals.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Mining team, based in the St. Johns, NL, Brampton, Sudbury, or North Bay, ON office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Ability to be a working lead for a project team of designers forming a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to produce mechanical layouts and plant design using Microstation V8, E3D, AutoCAD, 2-D and 3-D tools for mining projects
• Ability to extractdrawings from a 3-D model
• Conduct research and analysis, and recommend designs
• Troubleshoot, analyze, identify, evaluate, propose, implement, and document engineering solutions
• Understanding of project mission, including Client requirements
• Ability to read, understand, and comment on manufacturer equipment drawings and specifications
• Checking of 3D models
• Checking of 3D models and drawings developed by others
• Responsible for managing budgets, schedule and deliverables related to the layout
• Provide mentorship and supervision to the design team
• Provide support to our systems and tools including the Bentley Suite of software (OpenPlant Modeler, OpenPlant P&I, etc.)
• Provide regular feedback to the Overall Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress with the preparation of deliverables
• Ability to engage and coordinate the design with client representatives
• Participate and assist in proposal preparations
• Become familiar with EXP standards

What your experience looks like

• Technical college graduate with North American experience in mining and mineral or similar industries
• Minimum of 6years of experience in a heavy industrial design and layout, EPCM environment is preferred
• Design experience, preferably in the consulting industry, (preference will be given to those candidates with experience in Mineral Mining projects)
• Strong personal commitment to Safety and Quality
• Experience with Bentley, Openplant, or 3D Microstation
• Knowledge of project delivery, including the activities, interfaces and interdependence of all project disciplines
• Organized, self-motivated, pro-active, detail-oriented, and have good communication skills
• Sound understanding of design, engineering codes and technical standards
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.) products
• AutoCAD, MicroStation experience required
• Extensive knowledge in engineering standards, codes and guidelines and engineering systems coordination
• Knowledge of mining-related processes a definite asset

The salary range for this role is between$60K - $70K. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
