Job summary

CANUSA EPC is seeking a Mechanical/Piping Designer III to generate P&IDs, 3D models, and isometrics for oil and gas facilities. You will develop equipment layouts, piping plans, and plotting, while coordinating with engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet client standards and codes.

The role involves cross‑office collaboration, travel for site visits, and limited redline drafting under supervision. Diploma in related tech and 5+ years' experience are preferred.

JOB TITLE: Designer - III


REPORTS TO: Design + Drafting Manager


POSITION SUMMARY


The Mechanical/Piping Designer III will be responsible for generating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), 3D equipment models and piping systems, the development of isometric drawings from the 3D model, Equipment Location Drawings, Plot Plans, Piping Plans, and structural requirements. Redline drafting of EI&C or other discipline drawings may be required periodically under the supervision and instruction of that discipline’s lead.


This role works closely with engineers, project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary design teams to develop accurate and constructible designs that comply with client standards, industry codes, and company procedures. The Mechanical/Piping Designer III independently performs design and drafting activities while providing technical guidance to junior designers and supporting project execution from concept through construction.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Lead the generation of Piping & Instrument Diagrams with engineering resources.

  • Lead projects that require measurements and as-built documentation of field assets.

  • Create detailed 2D or 3D designs for complex projects under the supervision of Lead Designers.

  • Develop detailed mechanical design packages for oil and gas facilities, including:

    • Equipment layouts

    • General arrangement drawings

    • Piping plans and sections

    • Piping isometrics

    • Plot plans

    • Mechanical detail drawings

    • Tie-in and brownfield modification packages





  • Prepare MTOs and assist in generating Bill of materials

  • Coordinate design activities with mechanical, process, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.

  • Support project schedules by completing design deliverables within established timelines and budgets.

  • Keep up to date on industry and design standards.

  • Responsible for working with and collaborating with remote resources at multiple offices.

  • Understanding and practice of CANUSA EPC safety standards while performing business-related services.

  • Participate in team meetings.

  • Meet technical team department productivity and quality goals.

  • Perform to CANUSA EPC to engineering standards, policies, or details.

  • Work requires travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections.

  • Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.



  • Working knowledge of ASME and API codes.

  • Knowledge of the company’s preferred software;

    • AutoCAD

    • Navisworks

    • AutoCAD Plant 3D

    • CADWorx Plant Professional



  • Strong communication skills

  • Managing multiple priorities and assignments

  • Ability to collaborate with others to solve problems

  • Firm grasp of mathematics, engineering, and industry information

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams)


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  • A minimum level of 5 years’ experience designing engineered systems.

  • Experiences working at or with EPCMs, Producers and Midstream Companies

  • Strong technical/computer background


EDUCATION / DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS


  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related technical discipline.

  • Secondary Training in AutoCAD Plant 3D Design

  • A valid driver’s license

  • A passport and eligible travel
