Job summary

G&W Electric in Brampton, Canada, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to join our Production Engineering team. You will design customer-specific switchgear products to our quality standards, with a focus on overhead and underground catalogs, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities include leading design cycles, ensuring compliance with IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL and related standards, mentoring team members, and providing technical support across functions such as

Mechanical Design Engineer II

The Mechanical Designer (Engineer) II within our Production Engineering team is responsible for designing customer specified custom switchgear products to our G&W’s quality standard. This position will specialize in our entire catalog of overhead and underground switchgear products. G&W is excited to engage a self-motivated and results-oriented individual to join our fast-paced, collaborative work environment that offers consistent learning opportunities and problem-solving experience

As a Mechanical Design Engineer II you will:

• Lead and own team project communication, schedule, and all aspects of design cycle of moderately complex projects and customer orders
• Provide design competency to industry standards (IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL, NEMA, etc.)
• Design products to internal engineering design standards and best practices within customer lead time and quality expectations
• Mentor, train, coach and maintain technical aptitude among design team members
• Participate in design feasibility contributions to customers and application experts
• Be a change agent in department and company by identifying and resolving root causes through problem solving activities
• Provide technical support for internal and external customers
• Collaborate cross-functionally to support and provide technical aptitude for company and departmental projects as needed (e.g. Product Development, Aftermarket Support, Application Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing)

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Has CAD experience
• Has at least 3 years of experience in mechanical design
• Ability to create innovative designs and solve complex problems
• Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and has demonstrated presentation skills to diverse audiences
• Has strong analytical design and quantitative problem-solving skills

Preferably a candidate will also have:

• CREO CAD Software experience
• Leadership and Training
• Change Management experience
  • Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Root Cause Analysis / Problem-Solving strategies
• ISO Certified Manufacturing Environment experience
• Reliability Design Tools
  • Design For Manufacturability (DFM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T), Design of Experiments (DOE)
• Experience with Oracle J.D. Edwards Business System
• Experience with Industry Standards
• Related power distribution experience

What we offer you:

The pay range for this position is between $80,000-$90,000 annually.

Please note the pay information shown above is a general guideline. Pay is based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications.

This position is eligible for participation in our Quarterly Incentive Pay Program
