G&W Electric seeks a Mechanical Designer II to join the Production Engineering team in Canada. You will lead design efforts for overhead and underground switchgear, ensuring quality and adherence to standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates have a mechanical engineering background, CAD proficiency (CREO preferred), and 3+ years of design experience. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for success in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

The Mechanical Designer (Engineer) II within our Production Engineering team is responsible for designing customer specified custom switchgear products to our G&W’s quality standard. This position will specialize in our entire catalog of overhead and underground switchgear products. G&W is excited to engage a self-motivated and results-oriented individual to join our fast-paced, collaborative work environment that offers consistent learning opportunities and problem-solving experience.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer II you will:

• Lead and own team project communication, schedule, and all aspects of design cycle of moderately complex projects and customer orders
• Provide design competency to industry standards (IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL, NEMA, etc.)
• Design products to internal engineering design standards and best practices within customer lead time and quality expectations
• Mentor, train, coach and maintain technical aptitude among design team members
• Participate in design feasibility contributions to customers and application experts
• Be a change agent in department and company by identifying and resolving root causes through problem solving activities
• Provide technical support for internal and external customers
• Collaborate cross-functionally to support and provide technical aptitude for company and departmental projects as needed (e.g. Product Development, Aftermarket Support, Application Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing)

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Has CAD experience
• Has at least 3 years of experience in mechanical design
• Ability to create innovative designs and solve complex problems
• Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and has demonstrated presentation skills to diverse audiences
• Has strong analytical design and quantitative problem-solving skills

Preferably a candidate will also have:

• CREO CAD Software experience
• Leadership and Training
• Root Cause Analysis / Problem-Solving strategies
• Reliability Design Tools
  • Design For Manufacturability (DFM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T), Design of Experiments (DOE)
• Experience with Oracle J.D. Edwards Business System
• Experience with Industry Standards
• Related power distribution experience

What we offer you:

The pay range for this position is between $80,000-$90,000 annually.
