Summary of the role

The candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of projects for new hydro power generating units and for the rehabilitation of existing facilities. As a member of the balance of the mechanical balance of plant engineering team, the tasks and responsibilities include:

  1. Review technical specifications for contracts, identify design requirements and develop concepts for solutions and systems;
  2. Create written specifications for the design, manufacture and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels and auxiliary systems;
  3. Specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation and the like as required to fulfill contract requirements and industry standards;
  4. Review technical offers and detailed engineering drawings for hydraulic governor equipment and auxiliary systems in order to confirm compliance with technical requirements;
  5. Design turbine and generator piping systems (oil/water/air), using calculations to verify designs;
  6. Verify and seal the technical documentation produced under their supervision;
  7. Perform equipment inspection at the shop and participate in factory acceptance tests;
  8. Carry out engineering instructions and procedure for site work and commissioning;
  9. Organize and participate in design reviews;
  10. Provide technical support site installation and commissioning;
  11. Participate in the development and maintenance of design tools and rules;
  12. Assist the sales department in the bid for technical issues.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering;
  • 8-10 years of experience with hydraulic and piping systems;
  • Professional engineer registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Profile: client approach, teamwork, interpersonal skills, technical leadership, solution-oriented and continuous development;
  • Practical experience in hydroelectric power plant or with similar systems;
  • Knowledge of 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design software (Siemens NX, etc.) to supervise designers;
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.1 piping standards (asset);
  • Knowledge of pressure vessels (asset);
  • Bilingual (English and French);
  • Willing to travel occasionally (approximately 10% per year), mainly within Canada.
