This is a great opportunity for a Building Mechanical Engineer Leader to work as an Associate in Mechanical Engineering with a well-established company as they expand across Ottawa.

ABOUT OUR CLIENT

Our client is a leading consulting engineering firm with multiple disciplines. They are expanding their Mechanical Engineering division and seek a motivated leader interested in operations and business development to support growth in their Ottawa Mechanical department alongside senior partners. There is significant growth potential within this reputable firm.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role encompasses business development, client management, project delivery, project management, and leadership. The successful candidate will support engineering teams to ensure excellent service delivery for mechanical engineering projects in a consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership: Manage and mentor staff, including direct reports, acting as an Associate for Mechanical Engineering.
  • Business development: Seek new projects and leads, nurture existing client relationships.
  • Client liaison: Attend meetings and industry events.
  • Problem solving, project planning, and delivery.
  • Assist with hiring and peer reviews.
  • Project management: Oversee budgets, schedules, and financials.
  • Ensure projects are on track for successful completion.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of mechanical systems, industry standards, and sustainable building practices.
  • Support sales, proposals, and project efforts.
  • Participate in leadership meetings on operations and strategic planning.
  • Oversee design and technical success of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
  • Assist in scope and fee determination for engineering services.
  • Keep the Principal informed about projects, team, and deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer registration in Ontario.
  • 7+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience, including some leadership.
  • Experience managing a team preferred.
  • Business development experience in Ottawa and a strong industry network.
  • Knowledge of building codes, energy codes, and standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong client and project management skills.
  • Leadership skills, energetic and enthusiastic demeanor, capable of delegation and team management.
  • LEED Accredited Professional preferred but not required.
