Job description

Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for a Mechanical and Piping Quality Assurance Inspector to join their team on a 1-year contract in the Fort McMurray area. This is a fly-in/fly-out position with flights provided from Calgary or Edmonton.

This individual ensures that all piping, structural, and mechanical installations comply with project specifications, welding codes, and quality standards. This rotational role involves working on remote industrial sites (e.g., oil & gas, mining, or power plants) with flights provided from Calgary or Edmonton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections on piping systems, pressure vessels, structural steel, and mechanical equipment to ensure compliance with ASME, CSA, API, and ANSI standards.
  • Review welding procedures (WPS/PQR), inspection & test plans (ITPs), and quality control documentation.
  • Conduct visual inspections (VT), dimensional checks, and non-destructive testing (NDT) witness (RT, UT, MT, PT).
  • Verify material certifications, weld mapping, and heat treatment records.
  • Monitor hydrostatic testing, flange management, and bolting procedures.
  • Identify and document non-conformances (NCRs) and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations (OSHA, OH&S) and company quality policies.
  • Liaise with welding supervisors, engineers, and contractors to resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain detailed inspection reports, as-built records, and turnover packages.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certification: CWB Level 1 or 2, API 510/570/653, or ASME/ANSI Inspector Certification preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years in piping/mechanical inspection in oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industry.
