Job description

The City of Swift Current is inviting applications for 2 (two) Journeyperson Mechanic positions. These are both permanent full-time in-scope positions reporting to the Service Garage Superintendent.

This position requires a wide range of knowledge of a very diverse range of equipment and vehicles. Responsibilities include servicing and performing preventative maintenance required through inspections and assessing the condition of vehicles and equipment. You will perform fleet repairs as needed on heavy-duty equipment, turf and lawn equipment, light and fleet vehicles, and specialty equipment including fire trucks, buses, wheelchair lifts, Vac Truck, Street Sweepers, Ice Resurfaces, etc.

You will be required to supply your own tools.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Grade 12 Education or GED;
  2. A Journeyman's certificate as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Technician OR a Journeyman’s certificate as an Automotive Mechanic/Technician, OR a registered and active 2nd or 3rd year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics;
  3. Willingness to become Safe Places - Aware Certified;
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5A Saskatchewan Driver’s License and have the ability to upgrade to a Class 3A license;
  5. Knowledge and ability to use both mechanical and computerized diagnostic equipment;
  6. Ability to work with minimum supervision and to work well with other employees;

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Class 3A or 1A license;
  2. Ability to identify automotive/heavy duty equipment mechanical and electrical problems;
  3. Knowledge and understanding of electronic components, electrical systems and schematics;
  4. Ability to weld and carry out moderate fabrication.

The salary range for this position is $25.99 to $31.61 per hour in accordance with City of Swift Current - CUPE Local 183 Collective Agreement. The City offers an attractive benefits package and pension plan.
