Job description

Position Overview

The West Vancouver Engineering & Transportation Department is currently seeking a permanent, full-time mechanic to join our highly qualified team. This position involves performing duties related to automotive and heavy-duty mechanical work at the journeyman level, including overhaul, repair, and maintenance of all types of municipal equipment, either in the shop or in the field. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work on all types of municipal vehicles and equipment;
  • Carrying out safety inspections and performing preventative maintenance on municipal equipment;
  • Inspecting and repairing hydraulic systems on municipal equipment;
  • Performing various gas and electrical welding tasks common to mechanical shop work;
  • Submitting reports and maintenance records as required;
  • Supervising one or more employees in less skilled mechanical repair and maintenance tasks, if applicable;
  • Experience with repairing and maintaining small equipment used in turf care and landscaping is an asset; and
  • Performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess or be able to obtain and retain the following:

  • Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement Inspection Certificate;
  • Valid British Columbia Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake endorsement;
  • British Columbia Department of Labour / Red Seal Certification in Automotive Mechanical Repair, Heavy Duty Mechanical Repair, or Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanics;

The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 diploma, supplemented by technical courses related to mechanical work, completion of a recognized apprenticeship, and significant experience in automotive and heavy-duty mechanical and electrical work. Candidates in their 4th year of apprenticeship may also be considered.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to provide a police information check, driver’s abstract, and copies of their credentials.
