JOB OVERVIEW:

Under general supervision maintains, repairs and overhauls plant equipment as directed. Trouble shoot equipment down time and make necessary repairs. Determine root cause and corrective actions from down time analysis. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and safety procedures while performing job duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs a wide variety of mechanical maintenance and repair of production equipment and machinery using a variety of hand, gas and electrically powered tools
  • Engages in the welding and fabrication of parts as required
  • Responds to emergency calls and makes immediate repairs to prevent production down time
  • Participates in machinery trouble-shooting
  • Performs timely Preventative Maintenance checks, and parts replacement in accordance with PM plan for the site
  • Assembles and reassembles equipment; examines and tests mechanisms
  • Inspects and calibrates instrumentation
  • Tests equipment and adjusts calibration to ensure equipment is functioning is within specified standards.
  • Interprets technical documents (prints, manuals) as required.
  • Promotes occupational safety standards; gives others feedback on their safety performance.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum level of education required

  • High School Diploma or GED

Minimum number of year(s) of experience required in addition to education plus type(s) of functional experience

  • 3 years of plant maintenance mechanic experience

Other required type(s) of functional experience (e.g. Production/Operations, Accounting, Forklift Operator, Inventory Control, etc.)

  • Skilled in fabricating items using a welder and sheet metal
  • Experience interpreting and acting on written and verbal job instructions and reports, technical manuals and data.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance activities and procedures including preventative maintenance procedures and best practices
  • Experience operating company vehicles and equipment such as (e.g. forklift, man-lift, etc.)
  • Ability to learn new equipment, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines, such as : drill presses, power saws, where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity. The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
