SBM is seeking a motivated and experienced Mechanical Technologist to work in our London or Kitchener office. The Mechanical Tech III will be responsible for assisting the Mechanical Engineering Department with tasks related to mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection) drafting and design of commercial, residential, and institutional projects, with a focus on High-Rise Multi-Unit Residential Buildings (MURB). The Mechanical Tech III will work with the mechanical design and engineering team to produce design drawings for permits and construction, working independently and within project groups. They will also have opportunities to lead junior team members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the mechanical design team through building systems design and prepare detailed drawings for review
  • Design mechanical systems and components; 3D modeling may be required
  • Coordinate with engineering teams and other disciplines
  • Assist with analysis, evaluations, and implementation of mechanical systems
  • Support construction issues with design team and contractors
  • Provide technical guidance and review from engineers and designers
  • Occasional site visits
  • Other tasks as assigned by Mechanical Leads or Manager
Qualifications:
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience in mechanical design for commercial and multi-unit residential buildings
  • Diploma in Mechanical Technology, Architectural Technology, or related field
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated, independent, and collaborative
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in REVIT is an asset
