Job summary

Calgary Co-op is seeking a Meat Manager to lead the Meat Department, focusing on service, program execution and profitability. Training will be provided by an experienced Meat Manager as part of the Management Development program.

Responsibilities include budgeting, scheduling and staff development to drive financial results while upholding quality, safety and company policies. This is a full-time supervisory role at our Calgary location.

Qualifications

  • Grade12 or equivalent required.
  • Meat Cutting Certification or 2 years meat cutting experience.
  • 2 years Calgary Co-op supervisory OR 3 years retail supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Meat Department per policies and standards to meet financial and service goals.
  • Provide feedback to Centre Manager and Meat Operations Director for operational improvements.
  • Demonstrate leadership to create a strong team environment in the centre.
  • Develop and achieve financial results including sales, margins and inventory turns.
  • Ensure compliance with labeling, price integrity, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
  • Coordinate year-end performance reviews and development actions.
  • Lead OH&S efforts and ensure staff awareness and compliance.

Job Description

Calgary Co-op is seeking a Meat Manager to become a member of our co-operative team. Reporting to the Centre Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operations of the Meat department to improve customer service, program execution and company profitability. Including scheduling, appraisals, budgeting and attainment of financial results along with the overall management of image, standards, implementation and adherence to company programs, policies and procedures as well as human resources related activities.

The successful candidate will be partnered with an experienced Meat Manager who will provide the practical training and leadership skills needed for the candidate to manage the overall operations of the Meat department. During the Management Development training program, you will learn various facets about the commodity, including, but not limited to; scheduling, appraisals, budgeting, financial information and reports, how to effectively handle various situations, as well as the overall management of image, standards, implementation and adherence to company programs, policies and procedures, and other human resources related activities.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the Meat Department in accordance with the company policies, procedures, programs, merchandising standards and overall expectations.
  • Provide feedback to Centre Manager/Assistant Centre Manager and Meat Operations Director regarding recommendations for continued improvement of operations. Develop and administer action plans to achieve desired results of business plan.
  • Demonstrate and provide leadership that creates a team environment within the centre.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development and achievement of financial results and store budget objectives in the areas of sales, margins, expenses, profits, EHP and inventory turns in relation to overall business plan.
  • Responsible to assist centres adherence to government regulations in the areas of price integrity, labeling, sanitation and food and safety.
  • Network and communicate professionally with suppliers
  • Maintain customer service standards tracking, monitoring and follow-up of customer comments and complaints in a timely efficient manner.
  • Provide leadership and direction while upholding confidentiality in the areas of employee relations, performance management, security, union contract compliance, administration of policy and procedures and WCB claims.
  • Coach, mentor and develop Team Members, including overseeing onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
  • Coordinate yearly performance work plans.
  • Performs or assists with the year-end competency reviews and development action plan.
  • Provide leadership in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) including participate in OH&S activities, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with OH&S policies, procedures and legislation, assist in identifying unhealthy, unsafe situations and ensure corrective action is taken.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Grade12
  • Meat Cutting Certification or 2 years of meat cutting work
  • Two years’ of Calgary Co-op supervisory experience or
  • Three years’ retail supervisory experience.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Post secondary education
  • Three years’ of retail meat supervisory experience.
