Job summary

Heritage Co-op in Brandon, MB is seeking a Meat Cutter - Full-Time for our Food Store Meat Department. You will prepare, cut, trim, and merchandise meat products, ensuring safety, freshness, and attractive presentation while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in meat cutting, butchery, food processing, or food retail is preferred.
  • Experience operating meat cutting equipment, grinders, slicers, saws, and related tools is considered an asset.
  • Food Safety Certification (FoodSafe Level 1 or equivalent) is considered an asset.
  • WHMIS certification or training is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe knife handling, meat preparation, and processing techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection and fulfilling custom cutting requests.
  • Cut, trim, grind, and prepare various meat products according to company standards and safety requirements.
  • Monitor product freshness and quality using first-in, first-out procedures.
  • Maintain attractive meat displays with proper pricing and labeling.
  • Follow food safety regulations, sanitation standards, WHMIS, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, waste reduction, and accurate tracking of merchandise.
  • Operate meat cutting equipment safely and in accordance with policies.
  • Support department operations and collaborate with team members and leadership.

Meat Cutter - Full-Time
For our Food Store Meat Department located in Brandon, MB

The Meat Cutter is responsible for preparing, cutting, trimming, and merchandising meat products to meet quality standards and customer expectations. This role ensures food safety, freshness, and attractive product presentation while providing exceptional customer service. The Meat Cutter supports efficient department operations and contributes to sales growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection, answering questions, fulfilling custom cutting requests, and processing special orders. Collaborate respectfully with Team Members to create a positive work environment and deliver a World Class Customer Experience.
  • Cut, trim, grind, and prepare various meat products according to company standards, food safety requirements, and customer specifications while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Monitor product freshness and quality by rotating stock using first-in, first-out procedures, removing outdated products, and ensuring all meat products meet merchandising and food safety standards.
  • Maintain attractive meat displays by merchandising products, ensuring proper pricing and labeling, building displays, and keeping department presentation standards consistent and appealing.
  • Follow food safety regulations, sanitation standards, WHMIS requirements, and occupational health and safety procedures to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, waste reduction, shrink control, and accurate tracking of merchandise to support profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Operate meat cutting equipment and tools safely and effectively while adhering to all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Support overall department operations and work collaboratively with Team Members and leadership to ensure department goals are achieved.
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of high school or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in meat cutting, butchery, food processing, or food retail is preferred.
  • Experience operating meat cutting equipment, grinders, slicers, saws, and related tools is considered an asset.

  • Retail meat department environment requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive movements.
  • Regular work in refrigerated environments and around sharp tools and equipment.
  • May be required to lift and carry items up to 25 kg (50 lbs) or more while adhering to safe lifting practices.
  • Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Customer Focus: Provides exceptional customer service and builds positive relationships with customers through product knowledge and service excellence.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintains high standards of product quality, freshness, food safety, and presentation.
