Job summary

Heritage Co-op 1997 Ltd. is seeking a Meat Clerk in Brandon, MB to deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining safe meat department operations. You will handle meat, fish, and seafood products, price, display, and merchandise with adherence to food safety and company standards.

Responsibilities include stocking, FIFO rotation, and fulfilling routine department tasks. Preference given to those with previous grocery/retail or meat dept. experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience is an asset.
  • Previous grocery/retail/food handling/meat dept. experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development in retail food industry.
  • WHMIS training is an asset.
  • Knowledge of food safety and handling practices is an asset.
  • Retail meat department involves standing, lifting up to 20 kg.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection and inquiries, collaborating with team members to deliver a World Class Customer Experience.
  • Receive, inspect, store, prepare, package, wrap, label, and price meat, fish, and seafood products while maintaining quality and food safety standards.
  • Merchandise products, build displays, and ensure they are faced, priced, and presented per Brand Standards.
  • Rotate stock using FIFO and maintain department charts and logs for temperature and production records.
  • Monitor product quality and freshness, removing damaged or unsaleable items and reporting near-dated products.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the meat department, work areas, equipment, display cases, and backroom; ensure a safe environment.
  • Follow food safety, WHMIS, OH&S, asset protection, and security procedures.
  • Assist with inventory counts, transfers, markdowns, shrink and spoilage tracking, and other duties to support efficiency and margins.

For our Meat Department located in Brandon, MB

The Meat Clerk is responsible for providing an exceptional level of customer service and maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all company policies, procedures, and standards. This position is responsible for ordering, receiving, preparing, displaying, pricing, and merchandising meat, fish, and seafood products while ensuring food safety and quality standards are maintained. The Meat Clerk contributes to the overall success of the department by supporting efficient operations and delivering a World Class Customer Experience.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection, special orders, product knowledge, and inquiries; collaborate respectfully with Team Members to support a positive work environment and deliver a World Class Customer Experience.

  • Receive, inspect, store, prepare, package, wrap, label, display, and price meat, fish, and seafood products while maintaining quality, freshness, and food safety standards.

  • Merchandise products, build displays, and ensure products are properly faced, priced, signed, and presented according to Brand Standards; maintain awareness of promotions, updates, and department communications.

  • Rotate fresh, frozen, and processed stock using first-in, first-out (FIFO) procedures; complete required department charts and logs including temperature and production records.

  • Monitor product quality and freshness by removing damaged, dated, or unsaleable merchandise and reporting close-dated products to the Meat Manager.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the meat department, work areas, equipment, display cases, storage areas, and backroom; dispose of waste and debris and ensure a safe and sanitary environment.

  • Follow food safety, food handling, WHMIS, occupational health and safety, asset protection, and company security procedures.

  • Assist with inventory counts, transfers, markdowns, shrink and spoilage tracking, and other duties assigned by the Meat Manager to support operational efficiency and margin control.


Education and Experience:


  • Completion of high school is preferred.

  • Previous customer service experience is considered an asset.

  • Previous grocery, retail, food handling, or meat department experience is considered an asset.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development within the retail food industry.

  • WHMIS training is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of food safety and food handling practices is considered an asset.

  • Retail meat department environment requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and repetitive movements.

  • Regular handling of fresh, frozen, and processed meat, fish, and seafood products.

  • Exposure to refrigerated and freezer environments.

  • May be required to lift and carry items up to 20 kg (44 lbs) or more while adhering to safe lifting practices.

  • Requires use of all senses and adherence to food safety and workplace safety standards.

  • Customer Focus: Provides exceptional customer service and builds positive customer relationships.

  • Communicates Effectively: Shares information clearly, listens actively, and responds professionally to customers and Team Members.
