PURPOSE INDEPENDENT SECONDARY SCHOOL

Job Posting: Mathematics & Science Teacher Grades 8 to 12

Purpose: Secondary School, an inclusive education school part of the Lower Mainland Purpose Society for Youth and Families in New Westminster, BC, is seeking a full-time secondary teacher in Mathematics & Science.

The start date for this position is immediate.

  • Possess qualities of a passionate educator who loves inspiring students to succeed
  • Have experience and success working with diverse students with special needs, mental health challenges, behavior, and learning challenges
  • Have proven ability as an educator who continually improves their practice through professional development opportunities
  • Be motivated to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to meet students' learning needs
  • Develop working relationships with other professionals within the agency to enhance program delivery and foster collegiality
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues
  • Possess interpersonal skills to connect with students, parents, and staff

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach Mathematics & Science at the secondary level
  • Training and flexibility to teach elective courses if needed
  • Willingness to collaborate on curriculum assessment, instruction, and planning
  • Ability and desire to utilize technology in instruction and reporting
  • Classroom management skills that maintain student dignity
  • Ability to address students’ social and emotional needs
  • Skill to differentiate instruction for diverse learning needs
  • Experience with the new BC curriculum requirements
  • Commitment to individualized and group learning processes
  • A genuine interest in working with adolescent students and promoting an effective, respectful learning environment
  • Computer skills such as word processing for reports
  • A valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligibility)

Secondary School Timetable and Structure:

  • Linear school year
  • 35-hour work week
  • Four classroom courses per day, Monday to Thursday
  • Fridays reserved for student support, planning, and professional development
