Job Title: Materials Coordinator

Location: Edmonton, AB (onsite role)

Term: Initial 6-month contract (possible extension up to 6 months)

Start Date: September 2025

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM

Security Requirements: Standard criminal record check (Level 1, via Edmonton Police or RCMP)

ABOUT THE ROLE

RecRoot’s client in the public sector is seeking a detail-oriented, safety-minded, and customer-focused Materials Coordinator to join their warehouse operations team. This role combines hands-on warehouse activities, customer service, and asset management, with a focus on maximizing value from surplus inventory, supporting sales programs, and ensuring proper handling, disposal, and recycling of materials.

The successful candidate will work onsite in Edmonton, AB, and will be involved in shipping, receiving, inventory control, space management, sales preparation, and safe operation of material handling equipment.

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid forklift training & certification
  • 3+ years – Customer service and/or retail sales experience
  • 3+ years – Computerized inventory management systems (e.g., Lommis, Purolator)
  • 3+ years – Forklift operation experience
  • 3+ years – Safe operation of material handling equipment (e.g., shrink-wrapper, strapper, power pallet jacks)
  • 3+ years – Shipping and inventory control in a warehouse setting, including counts and reconciliations

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First Aid AED certification
  • OHS certification
  • TDG certification
  • WHMIS certification
  • 3+ years – Microsoft Office 365 proficiency
  • 3+ years – Conducting online sales (Ebay, Kijiji, Marketplace)
  • 3+ years – Asset research and appraisal
  • 3+ years – Retail/sales merchandising
  • Lean/Six Sigma efficiency training/experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales & Customer Service

  • Prepare items for online, onsite, and cash-and-carry sales, including photographing, describing, pricing, and tagging.
  • Assist customers in previewing, purchasing, and loading items.
  • Generate sales receipts, process cash/credit/debit payments, and issue change.
  • Support marketing strategies to maximize returns on sale items.

Warehouse Operations

  • Receive surplus assets, verify documentation, and manage space allocation.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment for loading/unloading.
  • Inspect assets, appraise value, and determine appropriate sale or disposal method.
  • Support redeployment of reusable assets and allocation to partner programs.

Inventory & Data Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records in computerized systems (e.g., Lommis, Purolator).
  • Conduct inventory counts and reconciliations.
  • Remove and destroy data from electronic storage devices in compliance with security protocols.

Recycling & Disposal

  • Identify recyclable materials and coordinate with appropriate recyclers.
  • Dispose of non-recyclable materials safely and economically.
  • Ensure hazardous waste is handled in compliance with regulations.

Equipment & Safety

  • Maintain safe work practices and ensure warehouse security.
  • Perform minor servicing of material handling equipment.
  • Maintain certifications and comply with all workplace safety requirements.
