Job Description

Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products in diversified end markets represented by its Engineered Solutions segment.

SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.

Job Description :

The Material Planner is responsible for managing the flow of materials to ensure timely and efficient production, meeting customer fill rates.

Responsibilities :

  • Scheduling and Production Control (60%)
  • Schedule multiple production lines, including creating and releasing work orders.
  • Manage production reporting and work order processes.
  • Follow up on production output and prioritize tasks for the Production Manager.
  • Monitor and report on customer fill rates, implementing recovery plans if targets are not met.
  • Oversee aftermarket inventory at multiple DC sites, reacting to potential shortages based on demand, and report during Divisional S&OP meetings and weekly fill rate meetings.
  • Schedule and monitor Engineered Solutions customer orders and production completion to ensure on-time, in-full delivery.
  • Support engineering and materials change coordination, including adding new parts to the scheduling process.
  • Manage deviations in the production process by updating work orders.
  • Participate in troubleshooting inventory system issues, such as discrepancies and backflush variances.
  • Material Planning (30%)
  • Place purchase orders and monitor raw material deliveries, including expediting as needed.
  • Review and approve freight invoices, resolving variances with suppliers.
  • Set up new parts for new projects.
  • Project and Continuous Improvement (10%)
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives within scheduling and planning functions.
  • Adjust system settings for optimal planning, including safety stock, lead times, and planning fences.
  • Participate in new project launches for Aftermarket and Engineered Solutions products.
  • Act as a backup for order entry, inventory control, and shipment documentation.

Minimum qualifications include at least one year of experience as a Material Planner / Scheduler or similar role, APICS certification (in process or completed), or relevant post-secondary education. Strong communication skills, knowledge of TS / ISO systems, proficiency in MS Office applications, and the ability to multitask in a busy environment are essential.
