Job description

Who we are

Skjodt-Barrett is a world-class manufacturer of food solutions and custom ingredients for North America's most beloved and trusted brands. We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.

A family-founded company started over 35 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Manager, Sales & Operations Planning, we are seeking a Material Planner to join our Brampton production facility. You will play a critical role in ensuring the timely procurement and delivery of raw ingredients — including dairy, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and flavours — as well as packaging materials. Your focus will be on balancing inventory targets, minimizing shortages and obsolescence, and supporting smooth production execution.

This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly. To be successful, you need to be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable collaborating across teams to keep production on track.

What’s in it for you

Make an immediate impact. You will directly influence the efficiency and reliability of our production operations by ensuring materials are available when needed. Your ability to anticipate and resolve supply issues will help us deliver on our commitments to customers.

Be part of a collaborative team. You will work closely with colleagues across Production Planning, Procurement, Sales, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service, building relationships that drive results.

Grow your expertise. This role offers the opportunity to expand your skills in ERP systems, demand forecasting, and inventory optimization while contributing to continuous improvement projects that enhance supply chain performance.

How you will make an impact:

  • Plan and replenish materials. You will convert ERP-generated planned orders into accurate purchase orders with appropriate lead times. You will monitor open orders, proactively resolving supplier delays caused by stockouts, transit issues, customs holds, or other disruptions. You will coordinate with production planning and warehousing to ensure on-time material delivery and maintain accurate MRP data.
  • Manage inventory levels. You will track SKU-level inventory and implement actions to prevent overstock, expired ingredients, or obsolescence. You will adjust order quantities and timing based on production schedule changes, sales orders, and material substitutions.
  • Collaborate across functions. You will partner with Procurement to identify alternate sources or negotiate improved terms, work with suppliers to reduce minimum order quantities for short shelf-life products, and communicate material availability updates and risks to all stakeholders.
  • Support forecasting. You will work with Demand and Production Planning teams to align material requirements with sales forecasts, provide input on forecast deviations, and support root cause analysis to improve accuracy.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement. You will recommend and help implement process enhancements to improve MRP utilization, data accuracy, and supplier performance while reducing waste and cost.

What you bring:

  • The experience. You have post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, and at least 2 years of experience in material planning, purchasing, or supply chain within manufacturing — ideally in the food or consumer packaged goods industry.
  • The technical skills. You are proficient with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics is an asset) and advanced in Microsoft Excel. You have knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Bills of Materials (BOM), and inventory control principles. You can interpret data to make informed decisions and act quickly. SCMP, CPIM, or CSCP designation (in progress or completed) is an asset. You are willing to travel in Canada/USA up to 2–3 times annually.
  • The interpersonal skills. You are a proactive problem-solver who can adapt quickly to changing priorities. You are detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to communicate clearly and concisely. You thrive in a collaborative environment, building positive relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
