About The Role

The Manufacturing I, Material Handler is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient loading and unloading of materials to and from the production cells and warehouse. Responsibilities also include filling out injection moulding hoppers, picking and placing material orders, performing daily cycle counts, ensuring Kan Bans are in place, and assisting assembly operators and Automation Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set-up and ensure that assembly cells are properly stocked with materials required for their build.
  • Prepare/pull/kit material for upcoming work orders.
  • Responsible to effectively calculate percentages and ratios (fractions)
  • Follow instructions to mix and ensure the proper percentage of colourant and/or additive is correctly added to resin mixes
  • Ensure that every precaution is taken to prevent contamination to materials i.e. putting lids/covers on barrels, colour feeders and gaylords.
  • Follow WHMIS label guidelines to identify materials, and ensure part boxes are fully labelled
  • Responsible to clean out loader and colour feeder, hoses, and attachments before running any material to the machine
  • Responsible to weight any scrap/waste and report out
  • Ensure that material dryers are clean and maintained on a regular basis.
  • Responsible to return unused components to designated areas in the warehouse
  • Cases are palletized/stacked safely before moving product to / from warehouse
  • Responsible for ensuring FIFO (First In First Out) is being followed, particularly when putting away materials
  • Responsible to complete Material Handler Work Order documentation
  • Validate contents of packaging (boxes, totes, etc.) to ensure accuracy of parts as well as counts.
  • Cycle counts as per schedule and when required
  • Report to the Production Supervisor and/or Materials Team Lead of any potential (including potential part shortages).
  • Participate in improvement initiatives in areas of health and safety, quality and Lean
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance SCJP Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Perform housekeeping duties regularly to ensure all work areas/cells are clean and organized
  • Participate and maintain 5’s initiatives
  • Participate and support month end inventory processes and counts
  • Inspect and Put Away incoming materials in designated areas.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required


Required Experience You’ll Bring

  • Grade 12 or equivalency gained through alternate education, in combination with related work experience


Preferred Experiences And Skills

  • SAP Experience preferred
  • Experience as a machine operator preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times


Job Requirements

  • Work weeks are 5 days, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day but must be open to various shifts as the business requires
  • Entitled to 2- 10 minute breaks and 1- 20 minute lunch
  • May be required to work overtime with paid compensation to meet business needs
