Job Description

We are currently hiring for a Material Handler role in Ottawa. In this position, you will play a critical role in the handling, control, and movement of materials to support our operations. The role requires attention to detail, physical effort, and strong teamwork skills, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in material processing and distribution.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, verify, and record incoming materials in the MRP/ERP system.
  • Inspect items for identification and damage, ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Store, package, and issue materials as required, including preparation of discrepancy reports.
  • Perform material kitting to meet customer and MRP requirements; maintain kits until delivery.
  • Move materials manually or with carts, pallet lifters, or forklifts.
  • Conduct cycle counts and confirm material locations to support inventory accuracy.
  • Serve customers at the parts window on a rotational basis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Equivalent to a Grade 12 level of education at an Ontario secondary school.
  • 1–2 years of related experience in inventory management within a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Basic computer skills; ERP/MRP system experience preferred.
  • Valid provincial driver’s license and forklift operator’s license required.
  • Must Complete of Safe Lifting Practices training course.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
Effort and Working Environment

As part of the interview process, candidates may be required to complete a physical assessment to ensure they can safely perform the essential duties of the role (e.g., lifting, carrying, and operating equipment).

  • Daily labour including bending, pushing/pulling, walking, climbing (ladder or stairs).
  • Lifting, carrying, handling materials and units (>50lbs).
  • Extended periods of visual attention for reading, comparing, matching and counting.
  • Works with heavy equipment and tools daily. Some exposure to dust/dirt and adverse weather conditions (loading dock, driving truck). Required to handle Chemicals and decant from supplied containers.
  • Extensive repetition when preparing kits.
  • Moderate interruptions to serve customers at parts window.
  • Responsible for daily safety checks for the forklift

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance.
