Job summary

EMCO Corporation is seeking a Material Handler/Driver to join our Edmonton team. The role involves picking, packing, shipping, receiving, and returning materials, with emphasis on accuracy, safety, and customer service.

You will load/unload trucks, operate a forklift, and ensure proper documentation. The position supports warehouse team operations, adheres to safety rules, and may include delivery duties within local routes.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; college/university degree an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year warehouse experience.
  • Outstanding customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to develop comprehensive product knowledge.
  • Ability to learn to safely operate a forklift and any other material handling equipment.
  • High attention to detail and accurate order processing.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence with clean record.
  • Experience driving a truck and delivering preferred.
  • Knowledge of Provincial MOT regulations and TDG Act.
  • Ability to safely operate a delivery vehicle.

  • Able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the EMCO truck safely, complete pre-trip inspections, and maintain logs.

Job Description

As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for picking, packing, and shipping customer orders as well as counting, verifying, receiving, and putting away incoming vendor material and customer returns. A high attention to detail will ensure exceptional levels of customer service and satisfaction.

Additional duties will include:
  • Follow all Health and Safety rules and legislation while performing job functions
  • Load and unload trucks, operate forklift and other material handling equipment
  • Receiving duties include:
    • Upon unloading vendor shipments or customer returns, obtain the packing slip and verify material received. Note any discrepancies or damaged material
    • Print and verify the computer receiving documents and enter material received into the computer system
    • Identify special order material and damaged material and store in proper location
    • Note all shipping discrepancies on freight carrier’s Bill of Lading, initiate freight claims and forward paperwork to appropriate teammate
  • Picking, packing, and shipping duties include:
    • Pick material for customer orders, counting and comparing items to the shipping documentation
    • Assemble material and pack appropriately for pick up or shipment to customer
    • Complete documentation for any shipments being delivered via third party carrier or requiring Transportation of Dangerous Goods documentation
  • Inform the Supervisor of any inventory discrepancies and damaged/defective material that would impact customer service levels
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and safety by removing empty cartons, metal banding, pallets, and other debris
  • Inform Warehouse Supervisor and/or Profit Centre Manager of any safety issues within the warehouse
  • Assist teammates in servicing customers at the counterPerform other tasks as requested by the Profit Centre Manager

As a Driver, you will load trucks, make deliveries and pickups at both customer and vendor locations. You will work in a safe manner in accordance with all laws, regulations, and company policies. You will be friendly, observant, and able to determine customer needs and communicate that information back to the Profit Centre Manager or Warehouse Supervisor.

Additional duties will include:
  • Drive the EMCO truck in a safe manner and in compliance with company policy, applicable traffic laws and provincial Ministry of Transportation legislation. Destinations include job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other EMCO locations, other wholesaler facilities and any other location as directed by management
  • Pick customer orders and load the truck at the Profit Centre with material to be delivered curb side to customers or vendors while ensuring the necessary equipment to safely load the truck is available
  • Secure loads properly following all legislation, ensuring nothing will shift, get damaged or fall from the truck
  • Complete pre-trip inspections and inform management of any mechanical problems with the truck
  • At the end of the workday, ensure that the driver’s log is completed
  • Understand the shipping documents, including Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), that are associated with the material for each delivery
  • Unload the correct material at each location and place it where the receiving party wants it and obtain a signature from the receiving party
  • Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately
  • Load the truck at other locations including material picked up at vendors and returns by customers
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customers discovered in the course of making deliveries
  • Understand and follow all safety regulations at all customer locations as well as at the Profit Centre
  • Support all Profit Centre activities as part of the Profit Centre team
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Profit Centre Manager or Warehouse Supervisor
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; College and/or University degree an asset
  • A minimum of 1 year of warehouse experience
  • Outstanding customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Able to develop comprehensive product knowledge
  • Ability to learn to safely operate a forklift and any other material handling equipment
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail and accurately process orders
  • Intermediate math skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence
  • A clean driver’s abstract that demonstrates good driving skills in compliance with company policy
  • Experience driving a truck and making deliveries preferred
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing driving motor vehicles and commercial vehicles subject to Provincial Ministry of Transportation regulations
  • Understanding of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act
  • Ability to safely operate a delivery vehicle
  • Excellent relationship building skills with customers, vendors, and teammates
  • Able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, or emergency situations
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience using Microsoft 365, Inventory Management systems
