Job Description

As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for picking, packing, and shipping customer orders, as well as counting, verifying, receiving, and storing incoming vendor materials and customer returns. A high attention to detail will ensure exceptional customer service and satisfaction.

Additional duties include:

  • Follow all Health and Safety regulations while performing job functions
  • Load and unload trucks, operate forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Receiving duties include:

Upon unloading vendor shipments or customer returns, obtain the packing slip and verify the received material. Note any discrepancies or damages.

  • Print and verify computer receiving documents and enter received materials into the system
  • Identify special order and damaged materials and store them appropriately
  • Note shipping discrepancies on freight bills, initiate freight claims, and forward paperwork to the relevant team member
  • Picking, packing, shipping, and delivery duties include:
  • Picking materials for customer orders, counting, and comparing items to shipping documentation

  • Assembling and packing materials for pickup or shipment
  • Completing documentation for shipments via third-party carriers or dangerous goods transportation
  • Reporting inventory discrepancies and damaged or defective materials that could impact customer service
  • Maintaining warehouse cleanliness and safety by removing debris
  • Reporting safety issues within the warehouse
  • Executing deliveries to job sites and customer locations
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the Profit Centre Manager
  • Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; college or university degree is an asset
  • At least 1 year of warehouse experience
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to develop product knowledge
  • Willingness to learn to operate forklifts and other equipment safely
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in order processing
  • Ability to learn relevant software systems
  • Intermediate math skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with plumbing and building products
  • Proficiency in Trend, Eclipse, Word, Excel, and Outlook
