Qualifications

Job description

Kelowna General Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Relief full-time Master Patient Index (MPI) clerk to join their team in Kelowna, B.C! This position works Monday to Friday days 7:00 to 15:00. This position is anticipated to end September Jan 1, 2027 or upon return of incumbent.

What Will You Work On?

In this role you will perform a variety of clerical and quality assurance functions related to the preparation, retrieval, distribution and maintenance of MPI audit reports for all Health Service Areas within Interior Health.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

  • Identifies and resolves duplicate and overlay patient records by running audits, reviewing reports, and updating systems accordingly.
  • Ensures patient information is accurately linked in electronic and paper records by verifying data and coordinating with Health Records departments.
  • Reviews and corrects Medical Record and EMR numbers in the MPI and Ministry of Health systems.
  • Provides front-line support for PCHP by processing profile changes, handling inquiries, and escalating complex issues.
  • Works with System Analysts and clinical/administrative staff to resolve complex patient identity and record issues.
  • Reviews and corrects patient records by verifying Medical Record and EMR numbers, identifying and resolving data entry or registration errors, merging duplicate records, and coordinating with Health Information Management and Ministry of Health staff for reconciliation. Escalates significant issues to the Manager and follows up as needed.
  • Conducts audits to identify data entry errors, duplicates, and potential misuse or identity issues.
  • Prepares and distributes audit reports, charts, and related documentation using standard software tools
  • Prepares technical and non-technical material relating to the auditing process such as reports, lists and forms using software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and databases. Distributes audit reports as required/directed.
  • Maintains filing systems and statistical data related to duplicate/overlay records.
  • Tracks and reports on data quality issues and trends through regular reporting and data analysis.
  • Calculates and maintains statistical information related to the tracking of duplicate and overlay patient records by performing duties such as gathering and compiling data, developing and formatting statistical charts and graphs using appropriate software applications.
  • Participates in testing new systems, offering feedback, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities by performing duties such as attending meetings and assisting with quality management programs as assigned.
  • Assists with orienting new staff by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures, demonstrating use of equipment and providing related information.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
