As a Vessel Captain, you will hold a pivotal leadership role aboard the vessel, ensuring the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the crew, passengers, and vessel itself. Your responsibilities include:

Supervision of Crew:

Provide leadership to crew members, ensuring their adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures. Oversee daily operations and provide guidance on best practices for efficiency and safety. Conduct regular training and emergency drills for the crew, ensuring compliance with Transport Canada regulations.

Vessel Safety and Compliance

Ensure the vessel operates within company-approved routes, abiding by maritime laws and regulations. Inspect all vessel areas for unsafe conditions or operational hazards and take corrective actions. Maintain up-to-date vessel operations, maintenance logs, crew reports, and records of any safety drills or accidents.

Equipment Management

Ensure proper use and maintenance of all onboard equipment during regular operations and emergency situations. Manage inspections, maintenance schedules, and repairs, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.

Accident and Incident Investigation

Lead investigations into accidents or incidents aboard the vessel, documenting findings and ensuring that corrective measures are implemented. Prepare detailed reports on any accidents or near-miss events and follow up with required actions.

Emergency Response and Drills

Coordinate emergency drills to prepare the crew for various emergency scenarios, ensuring the crew is well-versed in evacuation procedures, firefighting, first aid, and man-overboard situations. Oversee emergency operations, ensuring all crew members are assigned roles and respond promptly in case of an emergency.

Communication

Make announcements to the crew and passengers to ensure their comfort and safety. Maintain clear communication with relevant authorities and stakeholders, especially during emergencies or regulatory inspections.

Passenger and Crew Safety

Monitor and enforce safety protocols for passengers, ensuring life-saving equipment is accessible and fully functional. Address any passenger or crew concerns regarding safety and comfort, ensuring high standards are met.

In this role, you will be expected to apply your leadership and technical knowledge to maintain a safe and efficient working environment aboard the vessel while prioritizing the well-being of the crew and passengers.

Qualifications

To qualify for the role of Vessel Captain, you must possess a Certificate of Master, Limited for a Vessel of 60 Gross Tonnage or More.
