Position Overview
The Bentway’s Marketing and Engagement Assistant is an integral member of The Bentway Communications team, reaching and stewarding audiences, volunteers, and community partners through memorable moments with The Bentway.
This hands-on role provides meaningful, career-relevant experience in the arts and cultural sector, while fostering skill development in marketing, outreach, and cross-departmental collaboration. In addition to providing general and administrative support to the Marketing team at The Bentway, the Assistant oversees external outreach efforts including targeted promotion for events through activating community partners, engaging volunteers, executing giveaways, providing ticketing support for registrants, and proposing new outreach opportunities tailored to each program.
This placement is designed for recent post-secondary graduates to support their professional growth through practical experience in a dynamic arts organization.

The Bentway Conservancy is a non-profit organization and registered charity that works closely with the City of Toronto, artists & creatives, and local communities to bring our work to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and execute outreach activities in support of Bentway programs and events, including distributing materials, postering, sending emails, talking to community members, tabling at events, and submitting to external event listing sites.
- Develop a strong understanding of The Bentway’s programming and be prepared to answer questions from the public and external stakeholders.
- Support volunteer recruitment, assignment, and coordination to support the successful execution of Bentway events and initiatives.
- Provide communications support for events and programs via Eventbrite, includes; answering inquiries, processing ticketing refund and transfer requests, scheduling event reminder emails.
- Prepare graphics and social kits for partners to use in promoting Bentway events and programming, using design platforms such as Canva, InDesign, or Photoshop.
- Support the documentation, evaluation, and reporting of programming and outreach activities. Including participating in creative ideation and content development for cross-platform promotions, and reporting on ticket sales, press mentions, and other key metrics.
- Oversee the final steps of the Summer 2025 Visitor Survey, includes; monitor survey engagement, contact prizewinners, produce a report summarizing data from survey findings.
- Build and maintain relationships with local organizations and community partners, with a focus on engaging historically underrepresented groups.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills And Qualifications
- Passionate about public outreach and engagement with local communities.
- Relevant experience or academic background in outreach, community engagement, volunteer coordination, arts management, customer service, or writing.
- Working knowledge of social media and associated marketing tools such as Canva, Final Cut, and Wordpress are an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Organized, detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
- Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to build rapport with strangers and a particularly keen ear for listening.
- Knowledge of Toronto’s diverse communities and/or experience working with historically underserved groups is an asset.
- Enthusiastic about arts, culture, and public space.

- Are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible).
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
- Are an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, that is, not employed fulltime;
- Are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment;
- Are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with YCW;
- Have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.
