As one of Canada’s fastest growing companies and top-rated startups in 2024 and 2023, Float is customer-obsessed, passionate and entrepreneurial, with a team that includes leaders from Uber, Shopify, Top Hat, TouchBistro, and Ada.

At Float, everyone is an owner, bringing their unique perspective to our team and product. Your voice is important, and we take having a culture based on feedback seriously. We openly share our thoughts and differing opinions so we can continue to improve. We do our best to keep our decision-making decentralized so that all team members feel ownership in our success.

Our Product

Float is Canada's complete business finance platform, combining modern financial services and software to help businesses spend, save, and grow. Trusted by 4,000 Canadian companies, Float provides high-limit corporate cards, automated expense management, next-day bill payments, high-yield accounts and fast, friendly support—all built in Canada, for Canada. Float is backed by world-class venture and fintech investors, including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives and OMERS Ventures, partners behind our $70 million Series B raise.

Our team is a collection of ambitious, collaborative and mission-driven people from all walks of life but with one goal : helping Canadian companies not just survive but thrive. And we’re looking for bold innovators to help shape the future of business finance in Canada.

About The Marketing Designer Role

Float is seeking a versatile and self-motivated Marketing Design Lead to join our high-impact marketing team. As the sole in-house designer to start, you'll play a critical role in shaping how we visually communicate Float's mission and value to SMBs and mid-market businesses across Canada. We're looking for someone who can juggle priorities effectively, operate with agility, and thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment. You’ll report directly to the VP of Marketing, working closely with Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, Content, and other cross-functional teams.

At Float, we’re building a company where ambitious people who thrive on being challenged can do their best work. We work fast, collaborate often, and celebrate our wins at every step of the way. Our culture is built on trust, transparency, and a shared desire to learn and grow together. As part of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and help shape the future of business finance in Canada.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Design Leadership : Act as a thought partner to the marketing team, bringing creative solutions to context, challenges, and opportunities. Take ownership of creative execution across all marketing channels.
  • Multi-Channel Design : Create impactful designs for a variety of needs, including out-of-home media (e.g., digital billboards), social media assets, website pages, interactive tools / calculators, email templates, event materials, slide decks, and digital ads.
  • Brand Stewardship : Ensure consistency across all customer touchpoints by collaborating with the Product team to maintain a cohesive and unified brand experience.
  • Data-Driven Design : Proactively seek out data on how designs are performing and work closely with the marketing team to test, iterate, and improve based on insights.
  • Visual Identity Evolution : Own the visual identity for Float. Lead internal and external (agency) team members to evolve brand guidelines. Experiment with and test creative ideas aligned to brand guidelines. Based on insights and performance, provide a point of view on where to push and stretch the brand’s visual identity.
  • Efficiency and Agility : Leverage tools like Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro (or other video editing platform) and AI-powered design tools to work smarter and faster without sacrificing quality. Adapt to shifting priorities as needed.

About You

Here’s what sets you up for success at Float :

  • You Put Customers First, Always. You care deeply about delivering meaningful value. Whether you're building internal systems or customer-facing features, you're always thinking about how to make life better for our users.
  • You Act Like an Owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, step up to challenges, and seek solutions proactively—doing what’s best for the business, not just your role.
  • You Think Big and Move Fast. You’re energized by building from 0 to 1. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo, experiment quickly, and learn as you go.
  • You Constantly Learn and Grow. You’re hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. You bring a growth mindset to everything you do.
  • You Raise the Bar. You care about doing things well and efficiently. You balance speed with rigor and always look for ways to improve how we work.
  • You Win as a Team. You’re a generous collaborator who values communication, context, and shared wins. You lift others up and help make the team stronger.

In addition to living our values, you...

  • Have the experience : We’re looking for 6+ years in marketing, brand or graphic design, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment. Experience working with SMBs or mid-market businesses is a strong plus. You’re proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing tools. You can create designs for Webflow, or, bonus, you can do basic design work in Webflow. You can share with us a portfolio showcasing a range of design work across both digital and traditional formats.
  • Are super creative. You take great pride in creating a visual identity that is bold and memorable. You keep the audience in mind, and you test and iterate to capture their attention.
  • Are a problem-solver : You take pride in your ability to balance creativity with speed and agility. You have a knack for solving problems with design, not just executing requests.
  • Are a collaborator at heart : You are a strong communicator and believe that creative input can come from anyone! You can build partnerships across teams to support your work. You’re experienced at aligning marketing and product design for a cohesive customer journey. And you have experience collaborating with contractors / agencies and web developers on projects.
  • Have a feedback-driven mindset : You’re hungry for feedback and able to take it well while having your own strong opinions, loosely held. You crave constructive input and use it to improve and grow.
  • Are resourceful and independent : You’ve taken end-to-end ownership of design priorities and projects before. You’re comfortable being the sole marketing designer—a self-motivated individual who can manage multiple priorities and take projects from ideation to execution.

This may not be the role for you if…

  • You avoid data-driven decision-making and don’t seek insights on how your designs perform.
  • You resist experimenting with or stretching brand guidelines when appropriate.
  • You are not a self-starter and do not like to work independently
  • You don’t have high attention to detail
  • You don’t like ambiguity or aren’t resilient
  • You are uncomfortable with direct and frequent feedback
  • You aren’t genuinely passionate about helping Canadian businesses succeed by connecting them with the best financial solutions.

Why You Should Join

  • Work at one of Canada's fastest-growing fintech companies
  • Make a real impact in a high-autonomy, high-growth role
  • Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team
  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits
  • Hybrid work model – we are based in Toronto with in-office days for connection and collaboration
  • Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Bring your pup to our dog-friendly office
  • Thrive in a high-trust, high-performance culture where your work truly matters

In Short
