Job description

This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to the Oshawa or Markham Elevation Centre at least three times per week.

The Marketing Applied Science Specialist is knowledgeable in marketing analytics and research methodology. This individual has experience with measurement and media mix modeling, including advanced econometrics and statistical methods used to qualify media impacts. Knowledge of the economics of media channels (TV, Display, Paid Search, Paid Social, Programmatic, etc.) and measurement of ROAS lift is essential.

You will take ownership of driving an insights-first learning agenda supporting corporate strategy, marketing, product planning, and sales. The role involves curating and interpreting insights to shape brand positioning, product and content strategies, marketing communication, and go-to-market strategies. Strong insight synthesis and storytelling skills are required.

This person will collaborate with Marketing Applied Sciences teammates and stakeholders in GM’s vehicle brands to evaluate performance objectively and optimize audience activation to drive sales. You will assist in developing advanced marketing models, drawing insights, and creating scalable products to identify high ROI channels and tactics.

You will also support strategic planning for GM’s vehicle brands (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac) by working with research partners (Ipsos, Maritz, Environics, YouGov, JD Power, IHS, etc.) to gather data and develop insights relevant for Performance Marketing, Product Planning, and Retail teams. Leveraging syndicated studies, proprietary market data, and consumer research will help understand Canadian automotive customers, monitor competitive landscape changes, and guide long-term product strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement high-impact, data-driven solutions within cross-functional vehicle brand marketing teams.
  • Lead market research projects, including design, data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings.
  • Review market and consumer data regarding competitors and customers in Canada. Develop reports on industry events and consumer shifts, such as auto shows and new launches.
  • Manage relationships with market research and data vendors to incorporate their capabilities into analysis.
  • Develop and present research findings to Brand teams, Leadership, and Dealers. Build collaborative relationships internally and with vendors.
  • Apply advanced data modeling techniques for decision making and solving complex problems:
    • Perform exploratory and targeted data analyses.
    • Preprocess structured data.
    • Monitor and maintain model effectiveness.
    • Use data visualization to communicate complex information.
  • Work with technical teams to ensure project deliverables meet business needs and timelines.
  • Utilize marketing media measurement techniques (MMM, MTA, attribution, ROAS testing) to add value through audience targeting and engagement.
  • Ask probing questions and suggest experiments to increase impact.
  • Participate in marketing planning sessions with GM brands, agencies, and external partners to refine customer understanding.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (Data Science, Operations Research, etc.).
  • At least 5 years of market research experience.
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting to business audiences.
  • Proven analytical research capabilities, with a portfolio of prior work preferred.
  • Understanding of qualitative research limitations.
  • Proficiency in Python/R, SQL/Spark, with experience in Pandas, StatsModels, PYMC, TensorFlow, Pytorch, Spark/ML, sklearn, numpy.
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics methods such as CLV, MMM, MTA, customer choice models, time-series forecasting, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Automotive industry experience is an asset; experience in consumer goods research is also beneficial.
  • Experience with automotive market research vendor portals is preferred.
