The Program
Hull Services’ Marketing and Communications department leads strategic storytelling, brand stewardship, and multi-channel campaigns to elevate the Agency’s profile and foster engagement. The team collaborates across programs to deliver clear, consistent messaging through digital marketing, media relations, internal communications, donor outreach, and promotional content—all aligned with Agency goals and values.
The Position
The Marketing and Communications Specialist for internal marketing and communications plays a pivotal role in fostering a connected, informed, and engaged workplace culture at Hull Services. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, this role is responsible for developing and executing internal communication strategies that support staff engagement, program visibility, and Agency alignment. The Specialist acts as a liaison between the Marketing and Communications team and internal departments, ensuring that communication tools and messaging are accessible, consistent, and aligned with Hull’s mission and values.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan, write, and distribute internal newsletters, announcements, staff updates, and feature stories.
- Collaborate with People & Culture to support employee engagement initiatives and strategic priorities.
- Coordinate with the Infrastructure department to support IT and Facilities-related communications, including service updates, operational signage, and internal messaging.
- Work with programs that require external recognition to develop and execute tailored marketing and communications strategies that elevate their visibility and impact.
- Support program-level communications by developing toolkits, templates, and materials such as handouts, signage, and event collateral to ensure consistent and effective messaging.
- Lead internal campaigns and initiatives that promote staff connection and Agency culture.
- Assist in internal crisis and change management communications, ensuring clarity and compassion in messaging.
- Coordinate and capture photography that authentically reflects staff engagement, workplace culture, and program activities, while maintaining a well-organized image library to support internal communications such as newsletters, presentations, and staff updates.
- Support other communications needs and perform other duties related to writing and communication for Hull Services as needed.
Qualifications And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, along with 5 to 7 years of experience in communications, marketing, employee engagement, or a similar area, is required.
- Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across departments.
- Experience with internal communication platforms and tools (e.g., intranet, email systems).
- Advanced experience with internal communication platforms and tools, including SharePoint, intranet, and email systems.
- Familiarity with design platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva to support the creation of visually engaging internal materials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well in teams.
- Proficiency in the use of all Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft 365.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
- Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check.
- Cross-cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals, and activities of the commission.
- Experience working in the social services non-profit sector considered an asset.
