About Our Opportunity

The Marketing and Communications Officer will provide leadership in the development of marketing and communication initiatives for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. As the Marketing and Communications Officer, you have a solid understanding on utilizing digital platforms to generate brand awareness and audience growth across various channels. As the Officer you will oversee the editorial calendar and the distribution of Gallery content which supports the annual marketing plan and curatorial schedule, including the daily management of the Gallery website, and social media channels. To ensure success, the Marketing and Communication Officer has a superior understanding and utilizing brand content and strategic communication to its greatest potential across multiple platforms.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Leads on all tactical elements related to marketing campaigns, including media planning and booking, tracking, content development, analytics, and reporting.
  • Provide leadership to the Design Coordinator, Digital Marketing Coordinator and other project leaders on marketing and communication initiatives while ensuring effective and accurate brand representation within tight deadlines.
  • Work across departments to prepare marketing and communication strategies and materials that heighten public facing programs, exhibitions, and other public engagement activities and ensure that Gallery initiatives are thoughtfully brought to market.
  • Oversee the schedule and workflow for all design and production required by the Marketing and Communication team and all over gallery departments.
  • Develop or oversee the development of content (e.g. written, design, photography, videos) for use in press releases, public service announcements, newsletters, social media, the website and other digital media platforms.
  • Leads on the development of annual reporting to the public, supporters, and government partners through the annual report, AMG, and associated communication plans.
  • Work to ensure that the Gallery brand is accurately reflected in all projects and that marketing material is delivered on time and on budget.

Qualifications And Experience

To be successful in this role you have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Journalism and 5 years related experience. As per the qualification guidelines for this position. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

You bring strong leadership and strong relationship building skills that allows you understand and value working within an inclusive environment that values diversity. You have strong project management skills and impeccable written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. You are highly professional and exercise sound judgment using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.

You have a solid understanding of the importance of brand and the role a brand plays within an organization and have strong brand stewardship skills. You have a solid understanding of how to utilize social media and other digital platforms to meet business objectives. You must understand the day to day technicalities of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn).

For this role you are familiar with communicating to field media in person or via telephone responds appropriately to media inquiries. You have strong editing and proofreading skills, and a forward-thinking approach to generate content. You also have a solid understand as to how communication need to be tailored to meet the demands of various stakeholder groups.

    Working Conditions

    This position is based out of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia at 1723 Hollis St, Halifax NS. This role is primarily Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekend to support gallery or fundraising events.

    Additional Information

    The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is set to grow our fundraising activities to align with the strategic goals of the gallery. This role will be crucial to that growth by providing support to a small, focused team and working collaboratively across the whole organization to make the most of every opportunity. The successful candidate will share our passion for inspiring our donor community to engage more people with art and artists

    This is a TERM employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of January 22, 2027. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.
