Job summary

Pacific Salmon Foundation is seeking a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to support campaigns, storytelling, and donor growth in a hybrid Vancouver-based role. You will help translate PSF’s research into engaging stories, craft multimedia content, and manage campaigns across email, social media, and events.

The role emphasizes collaboration with program teams, media outreach, and producing materials for digital and print audiences.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.
  • 2+ years in marketing/communications or equivalent.
  • Experience producing content and marketing assets for digital channels.
  • Experience with video creation/editing for social media.
  • Experience creating graphics using tools like Canva.
  • Experience executing email marketing campaigns (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
  • Strong writing and content development for social media, web, and digital channels.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, social media apps).
  • Familiarity with WordPress and other CMS.

Responsibilities

  • Craft compelling stories and multimedia content for digital communications, website, blog, social media, and e-news; contribute as a writer for print publications.
  • Assist media relations with advisories, pitches, and releases.
  • Support knowledge translation by communicating PSF research to the public.

Position Overview

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays an important role in supporting PSF’s Marketing, Communications, and Development efforts. The coordinator supports campaigns to increase awareness of PSF, boost event engagement, and grow the donor base. The role supports marketing, communications, and knowledge translation through storytelling and communications geared to PSF’s audiences and the general public featuring research advancements, community programs, and actions to save and restore wild Pacific salmon.

The coordinator supports the execution of marketing campaigns, including email marketing, social media promotion, social media video editing, ad design, and marketing collateral. The coordinator also engages with PSF program teams and partners to communicate compelling stories of progress; supports media outreach; and executes communications tactics to reach target audiences. An adept communicator, the coordinator helps translate PSF’s science and action for salmon into engaging stories for a lay audience.

What You Will Do

The key responsibilities of the Marketing and Communications Coordinator include:

Communications
  • Crafting compelling stories and creating multimedia content to support digital communications, website, blog, social media, e-news; and contributing as a writer for PSF’s print publications;
  • Supporting media relations in coordination with our communications specialists, drafting materials such as advisories, pitches, and releases as directed;
  • Working with program experts to support knowledge translation, helping communicate PSF's research activities and programs to the public;
  • Creating and posting copy and visual content to PSF’s website;
  • Tracking social media and email engagement and providing reports on results;
Marketing Support
  • Executing email campaigns for events, fundraising, and communications;
  • Supporting marketing, event, and fundraising campaigns with copywriting, digital content, social posts, and campaign assets, with direction from the manager and fundraising team;
  • Supporting the planning and execution of marketing campaigns;
  • Producing digital and print ads for campaigns and fundraising;
  • Editing short-form and social media video content;
  • Assisting with the creation of digital and print collateral, such as flyers, pamphlets, and postcards, in coordination with team members and external suppliers;
  • Supporting campaign reporting (e.g., email performance, social media), and contributing to optimization;
  • Staying up to date with emerging technologies and trends and demonstrating how they can strengthen PSF’s marketing and communications;
General
  • Representing PSF at events, including staffing information tables and engaging with the public;
  • Supporting the Manager and Communications Specialists with campaign execution, communications, and other tasks as needed;
What You Bring
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing and/or communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience producing content and marketing assets, including social media, email, and digital or print collateral;
  • Experience with video creation and editing for social media;
  • Experience creating graphics and layouts using tools such as Canva;
  • Experience executing email marketing campaigns (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact or similar platforms);
  • Strong writing and content development skills for social media, web, and digital channels;
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, and social media applications);
  • Familiarity with WordPress other digital marketing and web tools or other CMS;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and time management skills;
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines;
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team, take direction, and demonstrate initiative;
  • The ability to exercise tact, discretion, diplomacy, and maintain confidentiality;
Nice to have
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities/partners;
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Familiarity with media relations, including pitching stories and arranging interviews;

  • Base pay: The salary range for the Marketing and Communications Coordinator position is $55,000 - $65,000. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience, as well as the contribution they are expected to make in the role. In the normal course, employees are hired at a salary between the minimum and midpoint of the established range for a position.
Reporting and Supervision

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator is responsible for undertaking all work identified by their manager and leadership to support organizational communications and marketing strategies.

Location

This is a hybrid role based at PSF's Vancouver office, with occasional in-office attendance. Travel within B.C. will be required from time to time — including to capture and report on PSF's programmatic work in the field, to support PSF's presence and tabling at events, and to participate in in-person meetings, workshops, and staff gatherings.
