- Preferred 1+ year of work experience in a similar role or equivalent
- Education or experience working in management, community-building, communications, or other related disciplines
- Passionate and knowledgeable about farmers’ markets and the local food sector in BC
- Strong time management skills and detail-orientation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (with experience in social media)
- Strong event planning and customer service skills
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and being outside in all weather conditions
- Self-directed, reliable, responsible, and flexible
- Hold a valid BC driver’s license with a good driving record
- Familiarity with the qathet Region
- Experience or familiarity with the not-for-profit sector
- Awareness of policies and guidelines related to farmers’ markets
List of Duties
- Responsible for ensuring the smooth onsite operation of our weekly outdoor farmers’ market and representing the market in the community
- Responsible for operational, administrative, and communication duties, the Market Manager must be committed to the local food movement, be friendly and energetic, have excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and numerical proficiency
- Oversee and aid in market set-up, arriving before market opens and remaining until the end of tear-down and clean-up (9 a.m. – 2 p.m.)
- Enforce vendor rules and regulations
- Maintain excellent relationships with vendors and address and resolve any conflicts
- Liaise with municipal officials and comply with their requirements
- Collect and organize vendor applications
- Schedule pop-up and rotational vendors as required
- Maintain lists of vendors, volunteers, community groups, and musicians
- Together with the Central Farmers’ Committee, develop a budget and track it throughout the season to ensure spending it within set amounts
- Invoice for and collect vendor fees, and provide receipts
- Maintain basic financial records and some bookkeeping
- Make bank deposits
- Report to the Committee on key financial indicators and ongoing market progress
- Reply to e-mail inquiries and maintain contact with vendors and the community
- Maintain and regularly update social media accounts
- Maintain mailing lists
- Promote the market in the community and media
- Execute marketing and promotional initiatives to increase business at the market
- The Central Farmer’s Market Committee is a working committee of the Skookum Food Provisioners’ Cooperative
- The new centrally located market at Willingdon Beach will provide space for over 30 farmers, food processors, and artisans who share a common vision of “BC Grow It, Make It, Bake It”
- HOURS OF WORK: 50 hours during pre-market launch (May 12-June 13), then 10 hours per week (20 weeks), including being at the Saturday market, from June 14-Oct. 18, 2025
