Compensation

Marker-Grader positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Master’s Degree Complete ($34.10/hour) - Paid to employees who have completed a master’s degree.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Undergraduate Degree Complete ($29.40/hour) Paid to employees who have completed a four-year honours degree or a three-year pass degree.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Third Year Complete ($21.70/hour) - Paid to employees who have completed the third year of an undergraduate honours degree.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Second Year Complete ($19.09/hour) Paid to employees who have completed the second year of an undergraduate degree.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· First Year Complete ($18.00/hour) Paid to employees who have completed the first year of an undergraduate honours degree.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

Duties

Duties will include marking research papers for a large class, and/or short answer questions for the December 2025 and/or April 2026 exams.

Some responsibilities will require in person work.

Due to the constrained turn-around time and legislated restrictions on weekly hours of work, this position will be split among multiple successful applicants. The number of nominal hours assigned to a Marker-Grader may vary from department to department and from course to course.

Total stipend for the research paper will depend on course enrolment but will consist of .8 hours x number of registered students.

Total stipend for each exam is 40 hours.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position have changed since it was last posted.

1. Must have completed or be enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52/61/62/71/72 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53/61/62/63/71/72/73, or 5F01, within the previous five years; OR Minimum BA in Psychology with an average of at least 80, and have taken PSYC 1F90, and achieved a grade of at least 80;

2. Must be adept at providing feedback to students in a constructive manner;

3. Must have strong writing and editing skills and a thorough understanding of APA writing style;

4. Must demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course to clearly explain all course topics;

5. Must have some familiarity with or willingness to learn how to screen turnitin.com reports and identify potential issues of academic misconduct;

6. Must have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data;

7. Must have excellent time management skills and demonstrate the availability to mark papers within a constrained turn-around time;

8. Must have experience with marking 500 (or more) research papers within one month, or in the case of exams, marking 3 to 4 short answer questions for 1,500 students within 9 days.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency. For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 1F90). For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course outline and grade summary from your student self-serve at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description. Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
