MARINE TERMINAL ENGINEERING STANDARDS LEAD

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Marine Terminal Engineering Standards Lead to join our Engineering Standards & Asset Services team - an integral role in ensuring the safety, consistency, and longevity of our marine terminal infrastructure. As a methodical thinker and experienced problem-solver, you are responsible for developing and managing standards, maintenance regimes, policies and processes for the Terminal Construction and Terminal Maintenance departments. You will liaise with other departments, including the respective departmental subject matter experts and stakeholders, to identify and support consistent standards development to maintain conformance with applicable technical and regulatory/code requirements.

To be a right fit, you are a strong communicator with a demonstrated ability of establishing and maintaining effective multi-departmental working relationships. You have sound knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, technical design documentation, and regulatory requirements for land-based marine infrastructure. You foster a strong commitment to personal safety and are familiar with WorkSafe’s OHS Regulations and working safely around marine and commercial/industrial facilities.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory & Policy, your key areas of responsibility are:

• Leading the development and upkeep of Terminal Construction & Terminal Maintenance standards, policies and processes, including maintenance regimes and both internal and external (regulatory/code) compliance requirements;
• Liaising with other internal departments to identify and support new and existing departmental initiatives where standards are required;
• Developing effective internal and external relationships to manage statutory/code requirements critical to marine terminal operations;
• Informing senior managers and other stakeholders on decisions and necessary actions to satisfy regulatory and policy requirements;
• Establishing documentation and tracking procedures for code/regulatory requirements and liaising with the audit team to mitigate regulatory variances;
• Acting as the Subject Matter Expert on current and future regulatory requirements, internal policies, and procedures;
• Preparing corporate positions and guidance for technical and operational managers;
• Assisting in implementation of processes and standards and tracking metrics to ensure adoption, compliance and continuous improvements;
• Supporting the Organization’s Asset Management initiatives and the inclusion of Asset Management principles into Terminal projects and standards;
• Providing leadership and training to employees as required and overseeing work, technical knowledge, and task development consistent with the role;

What you bring to the team

• Post-secondary degree in Marine Structure, Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering
• Professional Engineer license in BC or eligibility for registration
• A minimum of 4-6 years experience working on a variety of assignments in a technical/analytical role
• Demonstrated excellence in writing technical standards
• Knowledge of the relevant codes and regulatory frameworks applicable to land-based marine infrastructure
• Strong team orientation and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
• High level of self-motivation and initiative
• Ability to set short-term operational goals and directly support departmental objectives
• Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, organization and attention to detail
• Comprehensive knowledge of MS Office applications, including developed Excel and Word, and SharePoint experience
• Experience in asset management principles and ISO 55000 standards within an engineering, construction, or infrastructure project environment would be a benefit.
• Certified Asset Management Professional, Project Management Professional or Maintenance Management Professional certification would be an asset

Additional information

The target salary range: $105,200 - $131,500 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
